I know Essex Triumph. I test rode a 1050 RS same one as you rode I think as the reg rings a bell and immediately before I took out the 1200RS from them back in June last year, then a Speedmaster in the autumn last year. Now I have just bought a black and red 2018 Speed Triple 1050RS, practically new, with only 1k miles on it, but from elsewhere. Lots of extras that the original owner put on it which made the bike very attractive to me. Can't wait for spring to come to get out on it. Loved the 1050RS when I test rode it back in ..........2018 when it came out or might have been 2017. Can't remember. Anyway it's such a comfortable un-intimidating bike to ride despite being fast if you want it to be, but so easy to ride just on the huge torque alone. You don't need to rev it's nutz off. I did ride the new 1200 RS but felt it such a departure from the soul of previous Speed Triples that I didn't like it. It felt lighter and turned in slightly easier than the previous gen1050RS more nimble, but despite being a larger 1200cc much more powerful 180bhp engine you really had to rev it harder to get the bike to do anything and then you were in license losing or life losing territory. Didn't like the TFT on the 1200RS either. Horrid. Not really a TFT fan, much prefer dials so the Hayabusa gen 3 dash with dials and TFT integrated is my fav layout, although I do strangely like the TFT of the 1050RS which as TFTs goes isn't too bad, clear and simple. Shame that Triumph have routed the clutch cable right across the front of it. Fail. But apart from this the 1050RS is a gorgeous bike. Not so keen on the dayglo yellow of this bike though. I prefer the white and red or black and red. Triumph colour schemes are not the best. Suffolk Triumph also part of the Lings Group are offering a beautiful sky blue one with gold wheels atm as a one off but it's £16k! The price is too salty for me. I am hoping the switch gear of the 1050RS is illuminated which I think Triumph started doing with their bikes 2017 and onwards, not that I plan to ride at night. You never know though. Like you with your Speed S, I am having Michelin Road 5 tyres put on it and keeping the Rosso Corsa Diablos as they only have 1k miles on them. The newer 1050 triple RS engine with the QS is awesome. Love the Arrow exhausts although your SC project ones on your Speed S are probably a lot lighter. This is where the 1200RS lost a lot of weight by ditching the high level twin exhausts which was the Speed Triples party signature piece really. Shame. Great bikes, great fun. Enjoy yours.
Hi Alex. Thanks for all your comments. Your new 1050 RS sounds awesome, I also think they look great in black and red. It sounds like you found a great buy with just 1k on the clock. Although I’m not a massive fan of the TFT display, you do get used to them. The 1050 RS does feel completely different to the new 1200 RS doesn’t it! I would love to see a custom with under seat exhaust’s, I’m sure that will create a lot of interest! The new design is growing on me the more personalised bikes I see but it’s still so different to the much loved 1050! Enjoy your new bike and stay safe! 😁👍
@@TheAdventuresofPhilJones Many thanks for your reply and kind words. Sorry for the stream of comments. I just binged watched all your videos and have sub'd. The custom Ford Pop you have kept must be worth a few bob now. I remember my old man had one. When I was about 5 years old a man came to the house with a big truck to lift it up and take it away. I apparently had tears pouring down my face. My old man also had a fleet of about 10 Austin 7s in various states of road worthiness which his Mum got rid of as he had customised most of them and she thought they were junk! He came home one day from work and they had all gone ..... Cars and bikes have changed so much since those days and frankly for the better. You never knew whether you were going to make it to your destination or indeed home again. The warmer drier weather cannot come soon enough so I can start riding my Speed Triple RS. I could take it out in feb some time but would only get it covered in grime and salt and the damage would then be done. ATB.
@@alexmorgan3435 Thanks for bing watching my videos, and for sharing your experience and stories. I can’t believe your mum got rid of your dad’s cars without him knowing, know wonder you were in tears! Hopefully I’ll get the pop back on the road this year and create a video. We’re all looking forward to warmer weather, it’s not too bad at the moment but there’s still a lot of salt on the road! All the best! 😁
@@TheAdventuresofPhilJones Thanks for your reply. Yes it's a bit milder this week and next. Tempted to go out on a bike but as you say there is still a lot of salt on the roads. Your Ford Pop looks great. Clearly a labour of love for you. My Dad was always collecting cars, right through his life. Later he moved onto Italian cars Alfa and rare Lancias. Never sold any though. It was my Dad's Mum ie my grandmother who got rid of my Dad's Austin 7s to a local scrap man who was passing. It was in a 1950s/60s Birmingham. My Dad used to collect, customise and race them when he was a a young man. It was about probably 50-60 years ago now. Would have been worth a small fortune today. His Mum, my grandmother was a straight talking no nonsense proper nurse as they were back in the day. She has been long gone. Don't know why the Ford Pop went when I was 5 years old causing me such trauma. I'll ask my Mum. As a 3-4 year old I used to love sitting behind the steering wheel on a thick cushion making brrrrmmm brmmmm noises and working the manual windscreen wipers. Because of this have always liked the Ford Pop. Those were the days. What engine have you put in yours as many have non original engines if customised eg big V8s? Really looking forward to Spring, warmer and dry weather good for motorcycling. Also life getting back to normal. Must have been hard for you as a photographer trying to get work during all this covid? Fingers crossed we return to normal by summer. @@alexmorgan3435 interesting to hear your story. My pop took 5 years to build, it runs but needs a little bit of money spent on it but I’m being careful as work has been tough over the last couple of years. I’m looking forward to sharing more about the car in the near future all being well. Enjoy your bike if you take it out this weekend and don’t forget to wash the salt off as I’m sure you know! 👍
Another Awesome video Phil. Nice insight into the 2 models. Would I rush out and upgrade?? No 😄. I just love my S too much. I prefer the colour, I'm not really to bothered about the extra 1000's of pounds just for a few bits or carbon fibre and ohlins suspension as I'm not a track addict. I love the ride and feel of my bike even with showa suspension, which is as you know just as adjustable as the ohlins. I'm with you also on the TFT dash..... I like the old one ☺️. I'm glad I now have an honest comparison of the two and I'm still in love with mine. I'd like to think I'll be keeping her for many many more years yet 😄😄👍🏼
Great video Phil. I think my triumph speed triple rs has enough power for me for the road but that won't stop me taking the new speed triple rs out to compare the difference in performance stay safe looking forward to next video 🇬🇧👍
Thanks! The RS certainly has enough power for me too! I’m hoping to edit the 1200 RS video very soon. Without giving too much away, there’s a noticeable difference in power! 😜💪
So the RS has 10 HP more than the S? I have a 2014 S which I love. Have my eye on Phils black S, but 10 more HP and getting rid of some of those bright green stickers might be the way to go?
If I was to swap bikes now I would go for an RS and personalise it. I would love cruise control on my bike, plus a quick shifter would be fun. I’ve warmed to new 1200 RS but honestly still love the look of the older 1050 Speed! Keep me posted! 😁👍
@@TheAdventuresofPhilJones I'm with you on preferring the 1050. I test road the 1200 rs, but prefer the looks of the 1050. Love the symmetry from double head lights to double exhaust. Just unique, to me that look makes a triple a triple?
I bought an 18rs with the qs and auto blip. Any reason why you didn’t use the qs or blipper ? Try the rider mode and turn tc off then give it beans it’s transforms it into an animal. Other mods with tc turned off it’s held back hell of a lot.
I’m pleased you like your RS! 👍 I did use the qs but didn’t show too much video of it in use I’m afraid. I didn’t turn the tc off as didn’t want to rush into it on a new bike but I believe it’s a different animal! Thanks for watching 😁👍
