First vid I've heard with either of these that makes an enjoyable tune. Most videos just make horrendous headache inducing sounds that make you wonder what the point of the synth is!
Cute tune (I like it) Interesting, I used to own a. SH101 and a Roland 606 D/machine years later (the early nineties) I sadly and stupidly sold them to pay some bills. I assume you recorded them separately as the SR16 is midi and SH101 is voltage-gated controled, or did you find a way to sync them?
Hi Timer555s. Is it possible to use an external sequencer to create patterns and play these with the Alesis SR16? I like the sounds of this machine, but I like to program my patterns with a sequencer ribbon. I noticed it has step mode so perhaps that's another way of creating a pattern? Thanks!
Hi DD franks i haven't done it myself but have heard of people trying to load midi patterns into the Sr 16 from another sequencer but it often sounds like they have had varying success. Here is a link to some people discussing what i think tour trying to do. www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/Keyboards/acapella-18/347029-
Hi Timer555s. Thank you for the link, that was very informative. I was thinking of hooking it up to an arturia beatstep sequencer for example, and sequence/record each part (kick, snare, hats,...) individually into the SR16 and layer it as I go along. But perhaps that might not be the best way to go about it, would you think? Cheers! ;)
Does this work as an external sequencer? I've got a korg volca bass that's a bit useless on its own, as it can only do 16 steps. As long as you set up params, can you use the midi out?
Yes you could use the SR-16 as a sequencer, if the midi out of the alesis is connected to the midi in of the volca. also on the SR-16 in "MIDI SETUP" you can set the notes of the pads, if you do this remember to turn off the midi "CLOCKOUT" on the SR-16 to stop the internal sequencer on the volca playing.
This sounds really nice! Good stuff!

Very cool tune.
Great pair, thanks.
Sounds awesome!
Almost sounds like Aphex Twin ;)
+Eric Z Cheers mate, i asked rich and he isn't convinced ;)
in early days Aphex had SH-101 and Roland R8 another digital drum machine, so it's close :)
SH-101 with thick reverb will do that.
First thought that come to mind. This sounds very alik Selected Ambientworks II
he did use the sh101 on ambient works 👍
well done nice hi fi sound
I like this!

Thanks for the comment, there is a tr626 sending midi clock to the sr16, and also it sends a trigger pulse to EXT CLK IN on the SH 101.
very 80's, nice!
lovely
artificial intelligence encounter there :)
Very nice retro sound !
+Enorasis Project Yes, sounds really crispy! Great track!

Whats makeing the lead sound. There's 2 synth lines at same time. Did you sample the 101? Other synth line sounds FM'ish to myself.
Volca keys synced by midi.
Where is that 808-style open hat coming from? It doesn't seem to be on the SR-16.
Its not on the SR-16 it was a 606 hi hat.
Bummer. I was hoping I just wasn't finding it in my SR-16 :[
What was it recorded to?
I have a silly question. How did you record the song?
I run the sequencers record the audio on to a cassette deck.
timer555s keeping it old school, I still use cassettes too.
Mark lapham Jesus I was doing this 15 years ago and had to special order tape from China or Japan, I don't know how u guys manage.
Is the reverb from the sr-16 too?
No that was from an alesis microverb II, I think.
Is that an older Sr16, do the new ones sound the same?
It is an older sr 16, i assume the new ones sound the same but couldn't be certain.
New ones have the aux L/R as one out and give the other to headphones. The original has seperate L and R aux outputs, but no headphone out.
bochum!

@@timer555s that...is a really, really interesting use of this thing.
the title is misleading.
