Placing a battery directly behind your core isn't such a bad idea, especially on maps where you can only be hit head on. If they can shoot the battery, you've got bigger problems to worry about. Specifically, them shooting your core.
I might be wrong but since the core has more health then a battery some weapons bullets may pass through the core dealing light damage to the core but destroying the battery leading to boom
Yes, but the true galaxy brain move is to take a map where they can only shoot you from the front and create a nice line of batteries from the top of your base down to the core. That way, they can shoot for your economy and destroy your whole life instead!

I've tried this as soon as I saw how long adamantium ropes from the well defended mod could be. It is really hard though because unatached blocks don't collide with the base so you'd have to measure it out perfectly so it would hit the foundation under/next-to it. I haven't been able to pull it off succesfully but I'm sure someone who is better at the game could. Doubt it would ever be an effective strategy though!
A request, Incursus. I noticed a while ago that the commanders grant access to faction-specific weapons, I believe with Tanya's mod. The Eagle Empire's commanders have two particularly interesting weapons, the Auto-sniper and the 88mm Flak gun. I've been trying to set up a Tier 3 of the latter, but I'm not quite good at creating such constructs at the moment . . . do you think you could give it a shot in a video some time, if you haven't already?
I know this video was made 4 years ago, but I have to say this anyway. The reasoning you used on the ability to attach to the roof being a "mistake" is such a Survivor's Rulebook for Killers kind of moment, or in this case; Vanilla Player's Map Rulebook for Mapmakers.

If you notice one of the opponents left the game but with a base still intact it may be advisable not to destroy him. The non-directed but technically functioning base could block the other opponent from claiming it.
