I'm taking pharmacology now to apply to PA school and this piece on TCAs was EXCELLENT!! This talk brought together all the myriad but critical parts of the lecture in such a dynamic way, a way that the classroom piece did not approach. Please post more lectures on the pharmacology aspect. This is so COOL! Thanks so much!!
Man you are just an amazing lecturer I have ever seen. Am overwhelmed with joy to listen to your lectures. I can't wait to listen again and again and again. Thank you so much. May the Almighty Bless the work of your hands.
You are a great lecturer with terrific enthusiam and spirit. Keep up the outstanding love you have for the profession and thank you for helping understand and continue to grow in the profession...
I'm a first year psychology student. You explained this better than my lecturer! Rule of thumb, Tricyclics and Monamine Oxidise Inhibitors (MAO) both increase serotonin and norepinephrine, whereas Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI) only work on serotonin - correct me if I'm wrong.
YOU ARE SO AWESOME!!! I love your lectures. The way you simplify things is incredible. I would have never been able to understand it on my own. Thank you so much for these videos.
hello Dr ! YOU ARE #1,, i register in youtube just to tell u ur amazing,, and im in my last year in medical school and uralways helping me !!! THANK YOUUUU
Hi. I have an anxiety disorder with obsessive thoughts. The only ssri to work was luvox but it came with 20 pounds. I made a mistake by getting off it. I tried it again and it didn't work. I'm now stuck it a rut. Is anafranil my next choice? Also if you gained weight from ssri does it mean your more likely to gain from tca ? Thank you
I have been taking TCA antidepressants since I was 16. At first they were the only thing that worked now they are not doing anything for me except I am unable to get off of them. I take Clomipramine, Prozac, and Klonopin which are destroying my body, but I am unable to find a doctor or medication specialist who can help me get my meds straightened out. If you read this and know of a doctor, specialist, or hospital where I can get help please respond. I am barely able to get out of bed anymore.
You can go off them slowly cutting a tiny piece of pill off and then wait every few months and take another piece off it could take a year or 2 but u most go very slowly
They inhibit the enzyme MAO, which otherwise breaks down - in the case of non-selective MAOIs - serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine, PEA and other trace amines.
+Conrad Ritchie the same mechanism of any other neurotransmitter release such as norepi, dopamine , ACH , action potential causes the vesicles housing the Neurotransmitters to fuse with the synaptic membrane and then exocytosed to the synaptic cleft . Too late ? lool
Sir I have questions Tryclylic antidepressants drug block the reputake {5-ht & NE} quickly , but the antidepressants action show after a 2-3 week so Why the action show after long time
Great video but isn’t amoxepin an Atypical antidepressant. effects are equivalent to those of TCAs but I don’t think it is considered a TCA and also what happened to protriptyline (Vivactil) That’s also a TCA.
Protriptyline is as well as amoxepin, the tricyclic antidepressants are classified that way because of its unique tricyclic ring with an alkyl amine substituent on the central ring. You can check the structure up

can u plx make video on anxiolytics ans sedatives ?
Do MAOIs inhibit reuptake or do they inhibit the catalytic oxidation of Monoamine neurotransmitters??
breakdown inhibition
They inhibit the enzyme MAO, which otherwise breaks down - in the case of non-selective MAOIs - serotonin, norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine, PEA and other trace amines.
This guy is awesome.
Abeg. Oga Ade. Could please start teaching the pathology of other medications for LPNsamd RNs.
Its not MOA ... Its MAO (Monoamine Oxidase)
Good catch I didn't even notice.
awesome...
Yes. It is.
Could you please tell me what CAUSES serotonin release?
+Conrad Ritchie the same mechanism of any other neurotransmitter release such as norepi, dopamine , ACH , action potential causes the vesicles housing the Neurotransmitters to fuse with the synaptic membrane and then exocytosed to the synaptic cleft . Too late ? lool
your senses like vision, smell and touch i think
oyyy....monoamine oxidases are short formed as MAO, not MOA. please correct this.
This dude is dumb as shit.
I like your videos very much,I would just prefer that the difference between TCAs,SSRIs and anti-MOA was more distinct.
one of the best lectures i have seen in youtube, which made me place a comment for the first time :) thanks alot
