I completely disagree. Not that weekend update isn’t funny, but if SNL were just 90 minutes of it then it would suck.
No matter if the episode isn't all that great, weekend update always delivers.

The Italians who were lynched in New Orleans were Sicilians, from an island off the coast of Southern Italy and North Africa. Giorgia Meloni, the white lady whose race you are having a hard time figuring out, is blonde haired, blue-eyed and neither Sicilian or Southern Italian.
SNL really started appealing to that 15$ all-you-can-eat crowd. Might be why their ratings are tanking.

There is a long history of persecution and exclusion of Italian immigrants and Italian Americans in the US. The idea of “white” was never really about your skin color so much as it was your “breeding.” The Anglo-Saxons didn’t see the Catholics (Irish, Italian, and Polish), Germans, or even the Spanish as “white.”
Colin’s joke is a throwback to when Italians weren’t even considered white in the US by most people.

Oh, I think they got new writers.
They actually got four: Jimmy Fowlie, Ceara O'Sullivan, KC Shornima, and Auguste White. Also, Alison Gates, Streeter Siedell, and Kent Sublette are still head writers while Che and Jost have stepped down. Plus, I'm pretty sure they have the same writers from last season, including the Please Don't Destroy guys.

There is nothing funny about that joke. Anglo Americans target Italians because it’s the last acceptable form of racism they can engage in without losing their jobs or being socially ostracized. Hilariously, Italians are whiter than most Americans will ever be. Americans tend to be a mutt race and almost always have non European ancestry somewhere down the line.

Telling me all Sicilians are the N word. Levels of whiteness theories have a dark place in this country.
