      When your house is on fire, you can’t be bothered with the neighbors. Or, as we say in chess, if your King is under attack, don’t worry about losing a pawn on the queenside.

    If any of you are wondering why I love John Bartholomew so much it's because he's so thorough. This, in my opinion, is what makes him such a great teacher. Perfect example at 16:02 and I quote: "...even if I play g4 and we trade and reduce it to a situation where I have two connected pawns, provided my king isn't completely cut off - which it _won't_ be - or black wins one of these pawns - which black _won't_ - this is just winning for white."
    The hand motions, the way he stresses on certain words brings out the idea and expresses it so beautifully that any aspiring chess player can't help but enjoy and digest his content aggressively, analogically to an obese child's relationship to chocolate cake.
    By far, my favorite chess channel. Fully deserving of the recent influx of subscribers. To 100k and beyond 🍻

    Excellent video (as always) - I know what it's like to be 'that guy' who creates a difficult position for himself straight out of the opening! And congratulations on the Hall of Fame induction; it's truly justified and a well-deserved recognition of one the most generous chess y/tubers around.

    At 850 isn't rook takes d4 possible for black because your rook is undefendined and if rook captures rook bishop captures and he wins a pawn back

    "Giving up the queen for two rooks" In what kind of situations would that be a good trade - if ever? It´s 9 for 10 points..but..

    • @greenUserman
      @greenUserman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's generally considered a good trade, but not too big of a difference.
      In practice, though, as a ~1700 player, I've noticed that playing with two rooks can be harder because coordinating the two rooks is sometimes hard and it can be easy to hang one of your rooks in a time scramble.
      I assume higher rated players find it easier to coordinate the rooks and therefore probably like the trade more than I do.

    • @anomanderrake440
      @anomanderrake440 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two rooks can attack a weak point twice that a queen can only defend once. If the opportunity arises, it’s always worth your time to seriously consider this trade.
