Better by leaps and bounds than the other one (where the potential father-in-law had a crowbar through his head). Better acting, better scenery, better script, better pacing, better costumes. Adding in the element of science was SO clever, and great way to promote education while still keeping in the fun fantasy! The fairy conference scene was still too long, but waaaaaay better than the other of this similar script. ML got to play less of a doofus--he wasn't always scratching his head and looking super puzzled. He only did that sometimes. He regulated his face more naturally and--unless I looked carefully for them--there were very few hints of his previous evil SML expressions. Yay! I watched this at 1.25 and 1.5 speed during the fairy conference, but the opposing guy who wanted to marry the FL (who was I believe played by the same actor, as the majority of the early roles were--had a role much better in this version. He ended up funny, and didn't have his nagging mother adding fuel to the fire. FL was so much better in this one for the first hour, smiling nicely, being respectful. Then, once they hit the conference, she reverted to the same smug judgmental character they usually write for this actress. Still, the change in ML/FL roles together after the conference was a nice switch, and relieving. FL's father and the opposing guy at the conference really took it for the team with their reactions to the lightning. RFLOL Making the final setting more colourful and alive looking (rather than dust everywhere except the tree they rarely showed) was a huge improvement. Still, what the heck is with the ending . It is not like they are ever going to make a sequel, so why did they do it again when they had a chance for a do-over? Worth watching, but be aware it ends with an opening for a sequel, almost a cliffhanger.
