Last appearance of Razer in Classic Robot Wars. We wouldn't see them again until the reboot.
Also, kudos to Team Razer for finding an effective counter to Tornado's anti-crusher modification. Who knows? If the motors had held up they may not have given up their place to Tornado?
They never should have. The judges gave them the decision.
@@thesmithersy They felt it was the wrong decision, though.

See You To The EU, Robot Wars had unintentionally predicted the future lol. But more importantly why wasn't Black Hole in Series 7, that would've been interesting seeing it compete in the uk tournament.
Black hole was the only German champion. From Joe. X
Tornado vs Razer battles are BS every single time, made me so angry as a kid and we'll over 10 years later it's still total BS
Ditto, I cursed as much watching their match here as I did in high school... the judges should not allow that kind of loophole abuse.
Before Tornado made their modification, though, battles between the two were very one-sided - look at the encounters between the two robots in the Second World Championship or the First All-Stars Tournament. Razer is most effective against flat, boxy designs like the final incarnation of Wild Thing, 101 and All-Torque.
Simply put, it would be very difficult to have an even match-up between the two robots without one robot or the other making some kind of modification. Don't get me wrong, I think the anti-crusher web gave Tornado an unfair advantage due to its massively extended reach, but I can at least recognise the need to make some kind of change so as to try and stay competitive against a type of robot that works well against yours.
@@digitaldeathsquid3448 As you say, it's almost impossible to have an even match-up between a crusher and a pusher. But it's always permissible for a robot to defend itself against a specific type of attack. Tornado took about the only effective option against a crusher like Razer; but then Razer retaliated with an anti-Tornado hook. BOTH of those things were perfectly legitimate, IMO. As it turned out, Razer never got Tornado over the pit anyway - the judges ruled for Razer anyway, on control. But then Razer, very sportingly IMO, pointed out that they had been immobilised earlier. I don't like Razer, no fun to watch, but that raised them in my estimation. Pity some of their more fanatical fans are spoiling that.
@@cr10001 You don't have to be biased for Razer to say that it was conned by Tornado - you can also be unbiased, preferring consistency, equality and fairness without stupid excuses being made for flawed rules and a lack of sportsmanship. And typically those who call people Razer fanboys are hypocrites. They don't base that on whether or not the people they're talking to/about are actually biased for Razer let alone "fanatical" about it; they base it on their own bias _against_ Razer. They scoff at it for the stupidest of reasons, saying that it's "boring to watch" when robotic combat is a competition to be won whether something entertaining happens during or not, and that the robot was too dominant despite how agonisingly obvious it should be that you're SUPPOSED to do that in order to be the best. And Razer did that naturally without cheating. I suppose those who think Storm 2 was conned out of the UK Championship are just fanboys for that robot? That's nothing but a lazily thought out judgement.
Also, it's not "almost impossible" to have an even contest between a crusher and a pusher. Cyrax got underneath Razer to flip it when the former was a ROOKIE. You can't say that an experienced and accomplished machine like Tornado couldn't have either done that also, or upgraded its drum spinner to be more lethal. If you have to modify your robot so that a specific robot you can't be bothered to properly outscore has its attack methods rendered useless, you don't deserve to win. That's like allowing a boxer to wear specialised body armour to render a naturally better boxer's punches ineffective. And Razer's adaptation of its beak is no excuse either. That was simply the team making the best of a situation they never should've had to face.

Ooooohhh dear. I feel like this might be why Razor isn't competing anymore. I could see why the driver of team razor would walk away after his team decided to forfeit a match AFTER the judges decided they won.
There have been many judges decisions that go against other teams, so when one goes in your favour you should take it. I would be very angry at my team for throwing that away. Especially after someone adapted their bot with a cheap and nasty cage to try and specifically beat your design.

He was misusing that every episode, along with other terms like "destructability", and doing so for years without a producer ever having a quiet word to him...
I must admit that whilst for years I never agreed with Team Razer giving Team Tornado the place in the final round, my feelings have more recently become more mixed...
If it was me, I never would've given that spot to Team Tornado. I find it very hypocritical of them to complain about an unfair judges' decision when they're the ones who weren't playing fair in the first place; resorting to cheap and cowardly tactics to get ahead of a robot they didn't want to earn a proper victory against despite other robots showing prior and without such modifications that Razer wasn't invincible. Now, I get that some competitions allow for such extensive modifications today and that it's just another established ruling that I can't deny just because I'm not into it personally, but it certainly wasn't handled consistently on Robot Wars. Tornado's anti-axe for use against Terrorhurtz and Dominator 2 and the anti-spinner for use against Hypno-Disc were outlawed for being unfairly defensive, yet the anti-crusher _was_ allowed just because of the spinning blade on it, which makes no sense. No kind of weaponry changes the fact that it's a device designed for protection from a specific robot, therefore for the sake of consistency, either all the devices should be allowed, or none of them. And then there's the matter with the pit, in which it also makes no sense even having it if robots are allowed to be big enough to prevent going in. Sure, you could immobilise someone over it or on the edge (which Razer did with Tornado in the Series 6 Grand Final, yet it didn't count because it was unable to separate from Tornado despite how obvious it was that the latter couldn't escape its predicament in any case), but the pit's designed for robots to go down INTO IT. If getting someone stuck there is all it takes, you might as well just bring back the grilles from Series 1.
I also don't like it when robots only win because their opponent breaks down when they're clearly the better ones in the fight. Don't get me wrong - I wouldn't reverse decisions for that, since it's just an example of bad luck that happens naturally, and it's fair to say that you shouldn't die before your opponent in order to win. But this judges' decision would've been a convenient way to dodge such cheapness.
With all of this being said, I agree with Simon Scott and Vinnie Blood for ultimately doing the right thing, since they were not only immobilised first, but Vinnie himself once revealed in one of these comment sections that it was more like _three minutes_ and thirty seconds that Razer's motors were dead with the claw lifting Tornado up and down. And it showed that they were the better ones for their sportsmanship. Besides, Razer still beat Tornado here. The official decision was never reversed; Team Razer just withdrew and gave their place to Tornado, which isn't the same as the recipient winning. Just like Ultor still beat Big Brother in Series 3 and Concussion and Thor beat Cathadh and Terror Turtle in the second World Series episode despite the rewards of those victories going to the losers.

@1:24 Robot wars so it coming 😮
No way tornado would do this Andrew merchants a cheat and such a bad loser. Although I'm surprised the judges even allowed tornados rigging. Yes it could be placed over the pit but let's be honest it makes it way harder
Not only that, but it pointlessly compromises the pit's purpose. There's really no point at all in having the pit in the arena if robots are allowed to be big enough to prevent going in. Don't get me wrong, I agree with classing robots as being pitted by being immobilised either over it or by getting stuck on the edge, like with The Morgue in Series 4. But that's only something to fall back on (no pun intended) in case for an _unexpected_ reason the robot gets stuck and won't fit. The pit is designed for robots to be dumped down into it, not to be strategically placed over it. The latter is what the grilles in Series 1 were for. And Razer DID get all of Tornado's wheels over the pit and into that dead spot in the Series 6 Grand Final, yet it wasn't counted because Razer couldn't let go and drive away, which is fucking bullshit. Whether Razer was still holding on or not, Tornado was immobilised over the pit and couldn't have escaped by itself, therefore it should've been a loss for Tornado right there.
You're right to be surprised at Tornado's anti-crusher being allowed. The judges saw how their anti-spinner was designed to fuck over Hypno-Disc the same way, and they rightfully banned it. But they wouldn't do the same with the anti-crusher because it had a moving weapon on it. How is that a significant difference? No modifications designed to render specific robot's attack methods useless should ever be allowed whether moving weapons are involved or not. All these inconsistencies within the rules were a part of the problem with this controversy, which allowed Team Tornado to get away with carrying out their screw-job.
And yes, Andrew Marchant was a sore loser to... well, even be involved in the making of the anti-(insert specific robot's name) devices to begin with. But he was also hypocritical to complain about being on the receiving end of an unfair judges' decision when not only was he and the rest of the team already fighting unfairly with the anti-crusher, but also said himself that they weren't all that bothered about winning or losing this time.
@@ryanodonovan9497 "could" ... "should" ... "couldn't" - regardless whether Tornado COULDN'T have escaped by itself: it must be proven! Razer has 2 possibilities:
1. Really put them IN the pit. Why don't they try to do this - try it the right way? They always come from one of the sides of the pit, and we know that that doesn't work.
2. Let them loose OVER the pit. But if Razer isn't functioning any longer they can't let them loose...
@@uwose 1. The only way Tornado could've possibly gone into the pit with the anti-crusher on would've been to be pushed across from one of the pits corners, raised vertically with the frame's left and right corners (whether from the front or back) across the pit diagonally, and slotted down inside. But Razer couldn't have done that, because aside from it being needlessly hard for the team to grab hold of and get underneath the frame in order to do it, Razer would've just fallen into the pit itself when raising Tornado vertically. _"regardless whether Tornado COULDN'T have escaped by itself: it must be proven!"_ You only had to LOOK at Tornado's position in the Series 6 Grand Final! From that position, Tornado's wheels couldn't have driven the machine away whether Razer was still holding on or not as all four of them were over the pit.
2. You're right Razer wasn't functioning. But morally speaking, the anti-crusher never should've been allowed anyway, in which case Razer's motors wouldn't have burned out from it needlessly exerting itself. And even though Simon Scott and Vincent Blood were just playing fair by admitting to their immobilisation and withdrawing from the contest to let Tornado take their place, I don't see why anyone should play fair with Team Tornado when they certainly weren't playing fair with their adaptations that were allowed by inconsistent rules.

Tornado won the fight, Razer was holding on to them for nearly the entire fight and then the motors burned out so Razer should have been counted out and I respect Team Razer for giving Tornado there place in the final. (Also pointing out that Tornado with the cage on can fit in the pit and there are lots of other bots that are to big for the pit)
Firstly, Razer won the fight. Not Tornado. Controversial or not, the official decision was given to Razer and it wasn't reversed. Team Razer just handed their place in the final over to Tornado. That doesn't however change the official decision. It's the same as how Ultor still beat Big Brother in Series 3, and how Concussion and Thor beat Cathadh and Terror Turtle in the second World Series episode despite the winners giving the award for victory over to the losers. So Razer beat Tornado, and that's that. Besides, it's stupid when robots only lose because of some stroke of bad luck that the opponent didn't cause, which was the case here.
Secondly, so what if other robots are too big to fit in the pit? That only makes it all the more stupid for the pit to even be there if you're allowed to be big enough to prevent going in! Yes, you can still be counted as pitted by getting stuck over it or on the edge, but if that's literally all that can be done, you might as well not have the pit but instead the grilles from Series 1. The pit's designed for robots to FALL IN - not to be delicately placed over it.
And thirdly, the only way Tornado could've been pitted with the anti-crusher on is if it was lined up with the pit's diagonally opposing corners and raised into a completely vertical position to slot down inside. Even if Razer could've raised Tornado so delicately (which would've been impractical enough), it would've overbalanced and fallen down the pit itself.
