Omg I'm crying, my husband and I got to say good bye to our majesty queen Elizabeth II yesterday Saturday 17 September,had 14hr wait started at 12am got to say good bye at 2pm it was amazing honor feel bless too we seen changing of the guards still surreal moment to walk in I cried so has I walk to top of the stairs, god bless our majesty 🇬🇧💜xx

Other than in this scene, news of HM Queen’s demise hasn’t filtered through to Albert Square - nor to any of the other soaps - although it took Covid a while to reach soapland - in all fairness, though, soaps set in the present day are recorded months in advance - Eastenders has been known to slot in an extra scene relating to a topical event - Covid struck quite suddenly and unexpectedly - we went into lockdown in real life - but it didn’t exist in soapland for ages - they halted production on most of them, but enough episodes were made to keep them on the air, for the most part - Corrie had enough episodes to tide us over, Eastenders actually went off the air for the first time since it started, The Archers on radio had a few episodes in the can to keep fans happy - that went off the air for about a month - they played repeats - when it did come back, they used no more than four actors, performing from their own homes in the form of monologues! As this is the death of a monarch and not a worldwide pandemic, it’ll be a while before Albert Square learns properly about it!

They add in extra scenes to the episode when a major event happens just before it airs, the episode was made weeks or months in advance

They did this sorta thing before when Michael Jackson died, filmed an extra scene mentioning it before the episode continued as normal. Does anyone know if they did similar things for other topical events? 9/11? et al.
