    They don't explain how a phonics program differs from a Whole Language/Balanced Literacy program. If the parents don't understand how the methods differ the teachers in their childrens' districts will BS the parents into believing they are using a scientifically based method. The vast majority of districts don't follow the science because teachers have been poorly taught in their preservice training. Most teachers think what they have been taught at the colleges of education follows the science. They've never seen what proper literacy training looks like.

    Parents should be encouraged to homeschool. Its not the kids fault it is the educators who have not taught the basics of phonics at the lower level. The whole public school system needs to be revamped as there is an attack on families, education and religion.

    Student textbooks are written at grade level. Therefore, if a child is not reading on grade level, that child is already behind if promoted. Do not pass a child who is not reading at or above grade level. Common sense
