Recently found two books by Mr Bailey,
    Roach, the Gentle Giant
    Perch, Contemporary days and ways.
Forgot i had them and was fantastic to read through, although perhaps not as thrilled to find out they are both written 35 years ago! Has a very easy way does Mr Bailey in the way he writes and explains fishing. Up there with John Wilson as the top " simple" angler of the last few generations. You get the impression he'd be mortified by Helicopter rigs, Spods, and Christ alone knows what else.
    Great bloke.

I've been trying to get into fishing for ages, with your help it might actually happen.
Here, where I live, you do see quite a lot of women enjoying fishing. But they are always with their husbands. It's hard to start when you haven't had your dad explaining you the basics and pretty scary to be on your own, trying to grasp what is happening with your rod or why nothing is happening at all. It's hard, but I'll get there. :)

The most important thing for novice anglers to learn, is respect. Respect the environment, respect the fish, respect the laws and fishery rules, and respect other anglers. I think the biggest mistake that new anglers make, is that they go to commercial carp lakes and try to catch big fish on day one. You'll get far more out of the experience if you start small. Learn the basics of watercraft on a local canal, natural lake or river. Anyone can catch from an artificially stocked lake. It's shooting fish in a barrel, and that's cheating yourself, and will get boring very quickly...
And put your rubbish in the bin, don't leave it on the bank.

    • @2wheelsrbest327

Make you right Brian. Four years ago aged 66 I finally realised how great fishing is. I did try it aged 10 and it felt so boring back then. Initially brought Carp gear from an Angling shop but buying more gear from another the dealer mentioned that he preferred fishing for Silver fish etc as it had taught him watercraft as a youngster. That comment made me buy some more gear as given my in experience I have less chance of damaging a small fish rather than struggling with a big one. Sadly and your know this anyway but as a kid I would have been able to go to many more local rivers & Lakes than I can today as most are now owned by angling clubs. Over the last four years I would love to to tell you I have caught baskets of fish but I can't as I seem to spend most of my time untangling because of the reel or getting caught up in trees but I still love it though. Just wished my eyes were better given all of the knots I am trying to learn to tie.

Love this program but after 6 series the advisors still not taught Bob how to cast, hold a rod or play a fish properly 😂 😂. I find Bailey a better journalist and writer than he is an angler. Jack of some trades but master of none. Their co-authored book ‘how we fish’ recommends approaches so dated they’re actually now seen as potentially harmful to fish. Seek other more available expertise for beginners, especially TH-cam or local angling shops.
