The Frittenden Club hold this years British Youth Grasstrack Championships at their super smooth Sandhurst Bridge Farm venue, and what a superb meeting it was. All the time and effort the club members put in preparing the track for this event really paid off, and with so many talented youngsters able to show off their racing skills on this super smooth track. The racing was absolutely fantastic from the get go. The Cadets & Auto Cadets were combined, and race 1 could not have had more excitement and drama. Reigning Auto Cadet Champion Archie Rolph moves up to the Junior ranks this season, so could he challenge for the title in his first year in the class? Cooper Rushen the reigning Cadets Champion also moves into the Junior class, so it was going to be interesting to see how they both got on against the likes of Oliver Bovingdon, Jamie Etherington, Zak Batey, Ollie Binns, and Guernsey youngster Thomas Vining. A very competitive looking class, packed with lots of talent.
The Intermediates sees a mouth watering clash of two of the most talented youngsters in Youth Grasstrack in the UK. Reigning Intermediate champion Cameron Taylor and Max Perry look to have extremely bright futures, maybe not heading in the same direction, one on Speedway and one on Grasstrack, but it looks certain their paths will cross at some point in years to come, but today is the day we see them do battle for the British Intermediate title. This is Cameron's last year in the class, as he is already competing against the adults, but reigning Junior champion Max Perry has a few more years in the Intermediate class before he moves into adult racing. Another very talented youngster in this class, is Sam Norris. After a horrific crash on the speedway, Sam has gradually made his way back to racing from a very long recovery, and if anywhere near his best Sam would give both Perry and Taylor plenty to think about.
With the biggest class in Grasstrack giving their support for the meeting, the GT140's are always very close and entertaining. Maxine Beck was one of the very best 250cc riders around back in the early 90's, and now racing in the GT140 class she has clearly lost nothing of her talent. Chris Still looks to have been rejuvenated by the switch to the GT140's, as he's also going really well on his 250. Plenty of dangers around though, none more so than veteran Chris Mackett. A class act in the Upright Solo's, Chris is one of many older riders who has joined the GT140 ranks. Paul Smith, Lester Denham, and Ian Clark should also be right in the mix.
