the sparkplug wires will definitely need to be changed, my 3000GT (even tho its a base) had the same issue where the longer i drove it, the hotter it got, the worse it ran. The issue turned out to be 3 things, dirty MAFS plug, a spark plug wire was arching to the exhaust because it was resting on it, and the coil plug wasn't seated all the way. I don't know if any of those will be your issues, or if they fix anything, but I wish you luck, Miguel. These cars are most definitely a hassle sometimes.
@@MiguelDsm it’s a fairly easy job. Just be careful with the aluminum intake manifold you can very easily strip it. Also there’s 2 washers (one on each side of the intake manifold) they easily fall into the head when pulling off the intake that have been the cause of many blown up 6g72s.
You should always do a fresh tune up and boost leak test on a new car. Spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, pcv valve, etc. Always recommend a fresh 60k if you’re going to start modding (timing belt, water pump, etc.) Guaranteed you have a million boost leaks though, all cars do. Main leaks will come from the throttle body seals, rear turbo o-ring, & intake gaskets. Recommend vacuum reduction and evap delete and new vacuum hoses, bet yours are all cracked. 3SX has a nice boost leak tester that fits right into the maf bubble. Get your throttle body rebuilt, the seals are most likely toast and leaking, do a FIAV delete/bypass while you’re in there to simply taking off the TB & intake manifold.
I concur on the 3sx boost leak tester. Just remove oil cap to relieve crank pressure. I'd also try swapping out MAF with someone's that is known to function properly just to rule that out. Good luck Miguel hope you finally get to enjoy your VR4. They are way more fun when they work properly.
Hey Miguel, grate video. You might want to look at the temp sensor my 2g talon was doing the dame thing wen hot it would shut off and was hard to turn back on but if I disconnected the sensor it start right away. Good luck.
Check temp sensor first, Get msd wires(they have less resistance than any other brand). Check your gap on your plugs. Evap system refresh. Injector o rings? Just a thought. Boost leak is probably your stuttering. Could even be a gasket leak somewhere sucking air. Do the ol starting fluid at the flanges while its running. And if you havent already, change all your vacuum hoses. Super tedious but worth it. You can even redo in a differnt configuration to try to reduce clutter. I use silicon hose
You could have a boost leak yes but it also could be for sure arching with the spark plug wires s well. I had that issue where my coils were arching at the boot
The 3S is the type of car you buy and need $10k in reserve to fix everything all at once. Mainly, b/c 1 thing can break something else, and that can break something. Best way to own a 3S is to sort everything at the same time and use better than OEM parts for everything. Back in the 80s and 90s car's and electrical technology was still new and stuff just breaks. Mostly from too much heat. The 3S is notorious for a hot engine bay. I think due to poor air flow at the cowl.
Best thing you can do is drop it off at a reputable shop and have them diagnose and figure out the fuel issue. Sometimes that's the best option and one less headache.. I've done it with a few issues I had and no regrets as long as it gets fixed and runs better.. Just drop her off.. May need a legit tuning, boost loves to play with the fuel curve as with most DSM but honestly man, just take it in to get diagnosed and tuned if needed.. I did notice white smoke with your low fuel pressure, that's usually a result of incomplete combustion from a delay in fuel delivery, a worn out timing gear can cause that so I'd definitely look into your timing as a reason why you have low fuel pressure.. The white smoke with low fuel pressure was kinda a good indicator or whats going on...You also mentioned it gives problems when its warm such as starting issues, from my Honda days that 95% of the time was a faulty main relay, they get hot fast and cause problems but are fine when cooled down..Definitely do simple things like plugs, plug wires, new fuel filter, I'd even pour some seafoam in the gas tank to clean the fuel system... So much you can do to narrow it down..
sounds like a fuel problem..check the fuel pressure and pump in the tank...pump is loud..they rust easy and pumps get weak. also bypass your fuel pump resistor..I have owned near 100 of these twin turbo platforms, common problem I find all the time with them
@@MiguelDsm did you install the pump yourself? if not I would still pull it out and check it...alot of times the fuel hose bloat and leak when upgrading. this happens from not using high pressure in tank fuel line. also the only good way to clean fuel injectors is with a machine to back flow them.
I had issues with the sensor that dumps exhaust out of the engine. It's on the back of the firewall and wasn't connected. The car would build up when running long distances and had trouble cranking sometimes. I hooked it back up and no problem after that.
Definitely have a buddy of yours swap mafs with you to check if yours is faulty. On this platform the tps goes in however? I know it’s completely different but on a 300zx (z32) the tps position is set with a volt meter and had to be exactly at .4v.
Miguel, I just finished my 3000gt vr4 project and hope we can meet in person so we can do a vid together 🙏 Plus, I just installed a new ecu too so its running great
my subie had a MAP sensor that was bad. when i would try to start it it wouldn't start and it would throw a CEL. then after cleaning it and trying again it would start then it would bug out and not start again. i changed it to a new one and boom it was fixed. so might be your MAP is dead
İm driving a 200sx s13 and she wasnt starting after i drove around abit. İt turned out to be the vacuum box an the fuel rail that leaked fuel through the vacuum hose into the intake. That caused the first cypinder to be flooded with fuel and that was the problem. Back then i decided to check my injectors because everything else was just working fine. Started to disassamble and pulled out the cacuum hose....that was the moment i figured out what was wrong because a lot of fuel just flew out of that hose 😂 Dont know what the deal with your 3000gt but i just wanted to share. Maybe it will help someone else.
My toyota 4runner had issues in the heat and would shut off randomly and never triggered a code. Turns out i had 2 coolant temp sensors. The one in the back finally gave out and made the computer shut off the injectors. Maybe your car is similar.
Hey, I was rewiring my radio and then the lights in doors and keyhole went off(also radio), I tested radio everything was fine untill I heated the wires (to isolate them) anyone know what I did wrong?
The car sounds like it has a misfire at idle. My educated guess is that its spark related. If you havent changed the spark plug wires id do that while doing the plugs too. For wires use OEM or MSD. If you plan on raising the boost, it would be best to swap those to new since you dont know the history of the wires and plugs.
This. You literally never want to spray these sensors with almost anything unless it specifically says it works with mitsubishi mass airflow sensors. There's a mirror/glass piece that gets damaged super easily

Alot of people are saying wires. Might have to go that route

Can you write a complete list of things/maintenance to do when I get the vr4? I want to be sure I check every box off

Hmmm solid point!
Coolant temp sensor
The VR4 needs more boost. Great video Miguel👍. Hopefully next videos, it should be about editing cinematics
Needs maintenance then boost haha. I have a cinematics video in queue this week 👌🏼
All you guys rolling in with red vr4s. So awesome. It is a great color for 3000GT owners.
It’s rare to see them as it is. Nice to have a good 3-5 of us roll in with the same color
4:40 sick white Tacoma with te37 blue wheel and a camper

What a beautiful money pit😅🔥🔥💯
😅
i had the same issue with my vr4, my ecu was bad. one of the capacitor blow out.

Bro you filmography is top tier dude. Dope ass edits.
Thank you! I still feel like I have a lot to learn. Slowly but surely
Yeeeeeee VR4s represent
What a beautiful car and great video man. Please do a track adjustment bro 😀💪
Nice video man don’t give up on the vr4 lol
The black vr4 looks so sick

I had a buddy offer. Might have to if I don’t find a solution soon
What's up miguel great VR-4 content like always. By the way I seen you at the junkyard in ontario one day before memorial day lol.
You should have said what’s up! Me and the Homies we’re checking out a DSM lol
Wha gwaan Mig 🇯🇲 big up yourself you dun MITSUBISHI WE SEH..could be a Bicycle 🤣🤣
The black 3000 GT 🔥🔥🔥
Super clean 👌🏼

Great video bro car looking amazing
Thank you! I didn’t know you watched the channel
Your Gt is too nice with it, putting mine to shame 😂
Any 3s is nice to me. My respects to anyone that had the patience to build/own one haha
Another great video 👍😁
Thank you!

its a shame that mitsubishi discontinued such great cars.
Now they’re just a great piece of automotive history
@@MiguelDsm yes, and prices are sky rocketing 😂 spcecially the evos here in philippines.
Esos 3000gt 😎👍
Algo bien 👌🏼
Which cars n coffee was this? You ever make it over to fontucky for autocrosses?
Can you do a video changing the timing belt?
Any recommended international store where can i buy parts for mya eclipse 3g?
Is it not throwing an engine light? If so what codes are coming up?
Where did you get the front and side lip from?

Have you put a scan tool on it? That might help you out in diagnosing the issue.
Plan on doing it this week
Does it smell kinda fishy behind the radio. Ecm capacitors leak. injector 3 driver get fubar
Not that’s I’ve noticed but ecu has been a common suggestion. I would need to find someone that would let me lend one for testing
Naw just open it up and look it's super obvious if it's bad

Dope cars
Hey Miguel how can I get in contact with you. I been following you for while now. And I need a lil help for my build . Appreciate it in advance
Get a aftermarket ECU with OBD 2, thats what the guy who I sold my misfiring 3000gt to to fix it.
I have a question? its probably just the audio picking up everything but why does ur car make that high pitch whining sound?
Man I'm really curious what the vr4 issue is!

Don't forget the PTU
It currently has the NGK ones on there. Going to check the spark plug gap and might end up getting new wires
Hey, I would love to build a car, but the bureaucracy in my country doesnt allow it. Even a different wheelsize is a problem to get :(
Damn bro, where you live? I'm from puertorico✌️
Clean the injectors or replace them man 👍 has to be injectors
Going to check them out

It’s aligned. Need a tie rod
Is 15k a fair price for a mostly stock 99 GSX? It’s pretty clean
and how do you guys pass smog in cali ?? Im in cali and it’s pretty much impossible to pass smog here if you got some mods
Yes that’s a fair price. For smog, you have to go back to stock or find someone that can help you
Maybe it’s the TB. Old seals and all.
The throttle body shaft seals are for sure bad if they're original. The mil spec ones are the way to go for sure if you're gonna replace them.
