Hi Kas. Yes! The key to progress is to intensely, clearly and objectively observe our bodies, listen what is coming out of the horn and notice how our intellect and emotions are functioning as we practice and perform. It is truly a contemplative practice.
Where have you been all my life sir ?!? 😂 Great content ! I don't know how you do it but your trumpet sounds like you're singing effortlessly 😢 Greetings from Bulgaria!
I am grateful that you are finding my content useful. Thanks for commenting and letting me know that you were able to find me. If you know any other folks who may appreciate my attempts to help musicians (and trumpet players 😉) please let them know, thanks.
I really like how you talk about breathing. One thing I am curious about is what we mean when we say 'need to take a breath'. Sometimes I'm just out of air, but in some of the Arban exercises I often find I need to breathe but still have air and I have to blow it out and then inhale, and there just isn't time. How do I approach breathing so this doesn't happen?
That is a very good question. I call that "breath management" and it takes many different skills and high level body awareness but to begin, it is just like breathing to talk. We rarely over breathe when we talk but often take in too much air when we play. Then the air gets backed up and we suffocate. It is great that you notice this problem of "stacking the air." If we were working in person I would have a better idea of what to suggest to lead to discovering a solution. Maybe I will do a video on it 🤔
Your instructional videos are presented so wonderfully. I am a new subscriber and you have amassed a great amount of content in such a short period of time. So I've got some catching up to do. Is this Instructional series part of a sabbatical work project or just for fun? All the best to you and Thank You!
Hi Jason. Thanks for the encouraging words and for subscribing. Try not to get overwhelmed with the volume of the content. I put most videos in playlists so you can select the kind of content you are interested in. Well it is a great deal of work but it is not a sabbatical project and while I do get some satisfaction from providing content that I hope will help serious players, this project is something I simply sensed that I should do. I don't know where it will go or if I will be able to keep up the work but I am thankful for folks like you who take the time to express their appreciation. 🎺
Yes, Steve is a master! Performer and teacher👏
One of the best Trumpet TH-cam channels!!!
It gives me joy when people are able to learn and grow and open their minds and hearts. Thanks for your kind words.
Finding your videos very helpful. Sincerely appreciate the effort.
Thank you George. I hope the channel keeps you enjoying playing.
Arban's is an infinite book. Eons can go by during the initial instant of the first note of the first lesson. Sincere thanks.
Yes. It is only limited by your musical imagination and patience 😉
Once again, thanks. Terrific ways to think, to really think.
