As someone from LES, I kinda wish this Stacctonio dude went into more depth about the old dynamics of the neighborhood. Like how for the longest time there was the Hill vs Ave rivalry (which is more or less what Tru Life and his brothers fed into when ATL got murdered. ATL went to PS.15 with my lil bro on 4th between C and D.) The old PS 64 Blue Boy showed at the start changed location but throughout the 90s despite that building being boarded up there was still people living in it and selling drugs out of it. I remember shootings happening inside the abandoned school and due to it's "H" design the shots would echo way louder than normal. Even though LES was always wild, with abandoned buildings, drug needles, thugs, etc., it had a sense of community that was unlike other areas of the city, most likely due to the Puerto Rican cultural influence, class consciousness and activism of the time (which was more concentrated on the Ave, or Loisaida region aka Alphabet city/East Village), championed by LES legends like Bimbo Rivas. I was best friends with his grandchildren for many years back on 4th Street.

As someone from LES, I kinda wish this Stacctonio dude went into more depth about the old dynamics of the neighborhood. Like how for the longest time there was the Hill vs Ave rivalry (which is more or less what Tru Life and his brothers fed into when ATL got murdered. ATL went to PS.15 with my lil bro on 4th between C and D.) The old PS 64 Blue Boy showed at the start changed location but throughout the 90s despite that building being boarded up there was still people living in it and selling drugs out of it. I remember shootings happening inside the abandoned school and due to it's "H" design the shots would echo way louder than normal. Even though LES was always wild, with abandoned buildings, drug needles, thugs, etc., it had a sense of community that was unlike other areas of the city, most likely due to the Puerto Rican cultural influence, class consciousness and activism of the time (which was more concentrated on the Ave, or Loisaida region aka Alphabet city/East Village), championed by LES legends like Bimbo Rivas. I was best friends with his grandchildren for many years back on 4th Street.
