Everytime you mention Orilium I turn into this The Office meme: Oh my God, okay, it‘s happening! Everybody stay calm. What‘s the procedure!
I love this vlog series and I‘m super excited for Orilium, I can‘t believe we get all this and your hard work for free!
😂😂 that makes me so happy to hear! 🥹
Same here I get that meme in my head and both see and hear it
Unrelated but I am in love with that strawberry sweater
Thank you 🥰
As a great geek for Greek mythology, and a great fan of Circe, I get where you’re coming from, because I still had to google some references and characters to make sure I remembered correctly who was who etcetera.
Circe is a minor goddess and sorceress mostly known for being Odysseus’ lover (notably after transforming his crew into pigs). You already know she was exiled on an island, and Odysseus gets stuck there for a while too while trying to get back to his family in Ithaca, as written in Omer’s Odyssey. She is both the villain and the love interest, but originally it seems like (from what I can remember) Odysseus kind of manipulates her to release his crew from the spell. That’s the impression I got reading those passages of the Odyssey anyway.
Anyway, I hope that helped.
For the “against the patriarchy” thing, I think it’s most interesting to note that almost all women “fighting” and antagonising each other comes from the manipulation of some man, and that evolving for Circe and other women in the story means becoming manipulative and or stop caring about perceived rules or behavioural guidelines imposed by sad men.
All right, that’s all I had to say. I really loved Circe and I really love reek mythology, and all mythology really, I think it shows. It’s one of my most revisited interests. 😅 loved the video by the way! ❤
I adore this series and seriously hope you continue! I also have circe to be reading and everything you've said is what I fear so I may have to reconsider it as an unhaul! I just read Twisted Love last week and absolutely hated Alex the whole book and gave it 2 stars. I just could not get behind any of the characters except Ava's brother and really hated how it went.
Ooooh no don’t unhaul Circe on my account I do think it’s such a personal preference and one that can’t be sure if to recommend or not 😅 if that makes sense hah give it a go!
@@BookRoast I also have the audiobook so I will give it a try and see. I just find that I tend to have similar reading tastes to you so it made me a bit weary. I'll keep it for now and maybe some day will get to it!
It’s great that you’ve picked up The Virgin Suicides. It was made into a film by Sofia Coppola starring Kirsten Dunst and we named one of our daughters after her character’s name. Hope you enjoy it
Eugenides is one of my favourite writers, TVS is such a good novel!
Bright Young Women is riffing on the Ted Bundy murders, but it's coming at it from the pov of women/victims affected, rather than from his/the legal system/the public! It's exciting. Also I recommend looking up photos of Lake SamMAMish (indigenous word, stress is in a different spot of course 💜💜) the lake and surrounds are gorgeous. (I grew up in Washington state, it was a favourite for summer swims) thank you for the video! 💜
That sounds intriguing! Will definitely look at some pictures 💕💕
The PNW is gorgeous anyway. I live in Washington, too, near the Canadian border.
Love this series, so fun! Can't wait for Orilium 😍
I’m excited but still scared by everything we still need to get done 😅
I SO love these reading vlogs! 😍 🎲
I love the whole adjacent-book prompt! ❤️
Yay for Waterstones! 📚
Hope the flare-ups go away! 🫂
The pillow thing is rewlly cute. 🌸 I loved Circe but i understand your view because i am a big lover of Greek mythology and it did help to have knowledge of those myths. Im just glad you didnt hate it 😂
I love these ReaD20 series you are doing. SO MUCH FUN!
I love that strawberry sweater!!! ❤ I really like this series you're doing.
This idea for a game is very entertaining I love this ❤
I truly love this game so much!! I am always looking forward to the next installment :)))
Such a beautiful cover for a book I dnfed (in regards to Twisted Love)
It is not going great for me either 😅😅
I love this series and the strawberry sweater! I picked up Lessons in Chemistry on a whim last year when I saw Brie Larson would be in the adaptation and I absolutely loved it! It's not my usual genre but I ate it up. The book and the adaptation, which I watched right after. I hope you love it too.
I love romance, it's one of my favorite genres, and I cringed so hard when you revealed the book! I gave that a 2.5, and if i knew someone who was on the fence with romance I wouldn't give them that book in a million years! It's definitely not a casual romance. Give the genre one more chance but with better books! 😅
I'm here to balance out the comments as a huge fan of Circe! Your worry that you'll "drown in the prose" is my dream 😂 I'm definitely an all vibes no plot, character study gal so my babe Circe was the one for me 👌👌i completely understand when people don't love it though 😂
Im so happy you had fun with this series! I had too! 😍
As someone that has been into Greek mythology for 30 years I was disappointed in some of the myth telling of Circe. There were a few inaccuracies that made it a 3 star read for me 😬😞
Oh that’s interesting to hear too!
I‘m quite low on energy today but a new video of you is always so great and comforting so thanks for posting at the right moment for me 🙏
Honestly, it's the exact same for me!
Aw thank you that’s so kind ♥️ and I hope you feel a bit more rested tomorrow (or soon)
I'm excited to watch this when I come back from my errands tonight :D
Hope the errands are not too laborious!
1) this series is fabulous and so are you.
2) I've also been in a flare up for most of February and I am so over it I'm ready to cry. So I feel you.
3) I've never gotten super into the magical readathon before, but I think this is the year! I need something nice and I'm excited to give it a go.
Thank you for reading Circe so i dont have to 🤣 thats how i felt about Piranesi.
soo intrigued about the mystery Orilium element. Both your and Logan's creativity always shines through! ✨️
You may still love Circe! I wanna try Piranesi as people say I might love it and it's on a lot of lists of 'if you liked this you will like that' kinda thing but I am scareeed haha
Love following you around during your reads/week (that's not creepy nope) :D I loved Circe but I also found the first half stronger than the end bit and I did have to sit on it for a while.
I almost wish the end itself was a bit different 👀
The Virgin Suicides was adapted to a movie in 1999. I remember loving it but I haven't read the book.
Love this vlog series! I don't think I've read the virgin suicides but I know I've seen the film, I think it's a bit like 13 reasons why meets pretty little liars. I don't really remember it though
I said this last week but I do love this series so much. Look forward to it every time.
Thank you 🥰
You should try Song of Achilles even if you didn't love Circe I think it has a more clearly defined plot and character stories which makes it easier to get into
Someone else said that so i mayyyyyy 👀
I like the movie of the virgin suicides. Its from the 90s I think with Kirsten Dunst. You could watch it when you try to read it
Your comments on the writing style make me think I should try it from the library if I ever do
I’m from Tallahassee. Guess I need to pick up Bright Young Women.
I remember reading circe in 2020 for the first magical readathon i took part in! Was very meh about it
Bright young women is so good!!!
Oooh my neck of the woods. Pronounced Lake Suh-MAM-ish :)
You are the first person I’ve heard have the exact same opinion of Circe as I did when I read it a few years ago!
At least we’re not alone 😭♥️
Yay, new video! Ads cut in just as you rolled the die so I got my suspence even though it didn't come at the end 😂 Haven't read The Virgin Suicides but saw the movie a long time ago. Don't remeber anything but a few scenes and that it was quite heavy..... maybe? And I was young so could have something to do with it? Time really flies, how is it almost March?!
Ads being timed that way is funny as I just let it do it automatically this time as I had to run out 😂
@@BookRoast By the way, you were not alone. I’ve not read Circe yet either even though I look at it every time I’m at the book store 😬😳
You finally read Circe! 😧 Circe was the first Greek myth I read and I don’t know how it holds up against the other I’ve read later. Also, love the strawberry sweater 🍓
I really have not read many or even any other ones so can't compare haha
I loved Lessons in Chemistry (but I also loved Circe 😂different vibes though)
*taking tbr notes*
I’m scared
Listened to Circé for the readathon and I quite like it but I guess I would be part of the targeted audience (I used to be really into Greek mythology - although I got confused with the english names -)
Ps : That strawberry sweater is so cute 🥺🍓
That absolutely make sense, if I were into mythology I think I would have enjoyed this much more too - the writing was beautiful
yay i’m early!! love you all ❤️
Your shelves are so pretty!! I'm always fascinated for them 🤍. For Lessons on chemistry maybe you can use different colors for each petal of the blanket or something like that (??)
❤❤❤
I liked Circe but i LOVED song of achilles. If you like the writing style (i do) i think you'll like SoA
I may give that a go 🫣
The Virgin Suicides....is SO good!! If I recall correctly there might be some triggers....and tissues! And after, check out the movie 😉!
Knowing now that there’s a movie I’m more excited because I LOVE watching one after I just finished the book!
I'm really into greek mythology but I wasn't a big fan of Circe either for similar reasons as you 😅
I loved Twisted Love, but I'm a major romance reader.
I am going in with an open mind 🙏
I really liked circe when i read it but i am a fan of lyrical prose and vibes ✨️ HOWEVER if i reread it now, im not sure how i would love it?? It might have been a time and place love for me
I do love when the time aligns! But you never know maybe you’d love it now too ♥️
@@BookRoast if i read it again, I'd like to try the audiobook!
Tallahassee is the capital of Florida. It's also where the US serial killer Ted Bundy was caught and prosecuted after killing multiple girls in a sorority house.
I’m sitting here like why does the UK have all the pretty editions???
Some covers are nicer elsewhere but we def cannot complain I agree!
I'm listening to Twisted Love on Spotify currently. It took me a little while to get into it because of Alex's character but I'm enjoying it now... apart from the bits written from his point of view. I think it's because his character doesn't feel believable to me, as well as being an arsehole
🧡📚🧡📚🧡📚🧡
Sorry. Its one of my favorite books😅
I'm happy for you! 😊💖
I'm with you! 😁
I really did not like the song of achilles. Haven't read circe but def don't plan on it😂
ooop haha
I actually read Circe first and really liked it (I‘m a mythology geek tho) but I did not like Song of Achilles actually, so you might still like it
When are we getting magical readathon announcement??
Aiming for mid March 😘
