Edith Head was Hitchcock's fashion designer who placed symbolism in what the character wore throughout the movie, "Psycho" through "Rear Window" and many other films for example "Vertigo" where Kim Novak wore a black scarf symbolizing fatality for her. Looking back you'll see Hitchcock gave symbols of what's to come in each movie.

I think the white dress from "To Catch a Thief", #8 on the list, should have been #1. I'm obsessed with that gown. It's absolute perfection that I've never seen equaled. All the positive things said about the blue one from the same movie, go double for this one. It could have gone so wrong in lesser hands than Edith Head's but she combined with Grace Kelly make it into the most incredibly elegant gown in movie history.
That pearl bracelet in Rear Window is iconic. The fact that no fashion jewelry company has knocked it off is mind boggling. I had to make my own.

Great list! First time I saw Grace in To Catch a Thief on blu-ray my jaw dropped. She looks absolutely stunning in every single frame. Definitely Top 5 glamorous leading ladies in Hollywood history for me.
Grace, in my mind, is the #1 Actor of her time-and most others. She’s transcendent! She only made 11 feature films, but those movies are so memorable, it’s hard to believe her acting career was over at age 26, when she went on to her biggest part of all, HSH Princess Grace of Monaco. A role that almost single-handedly saved the Monagasques from annexation by France. Her presence there saw times change from a frightening brush with complete ruin of the municipality, to a complete reversal of fortune in the areas of tourism, casino business, and lookers who came to the French Riviera and hopped over to Monaco to see if they could catch a glimpse of this divine American Princess.
Ugh, was she only 26 when she married? What a bad decision that was. She ruined her life, in my opinion. She wasn't known as a stupid blonde, but she sure made a very stupid choice. Imaging being a movie star of that calibre, surrounded by all those amazing artists, being free to do anything you want, to be with anyone you want and then choose to marry a boring prince and lock yourself up in monaco! It's not a fairy tale, it's a horror story.

A perfect beauty which she passed on to Princess Caroline and now her stunning gorgeous granddaughter Charlotte! Edith Head who won many Oscars for her designs also outdid herself here! Love all those classic fashions from the 50s along with that other late great actress and fashion icon Audrey Hepburn, also a great humanitarian. The late beautiful Jackie Kennedy was very influenced by Audrey Hepburn and love the fashions by French couturier Givenchy, but the Kennedys wanted her dressed by an American designer so she went with the late great Oleg Cassini. Although he was really an Italian count by birth from nobility who was once engaged to Grace Kelly before she married Prince Ranier! Thanks for sharing.

If there was ever a woman born to become a princess, it was Grace Kelly. The downpart there was that her career stopped when she married her prince at 26. And she was lost to the movie world.

I saw the High Society costumes in a Grace Kelly exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London some years ago. It had clothes from some of her films and also her own clothes and accessories. Number six on this list, the dress she wears when she escapes from her party in High Society was my favourite. In real life the lining underneath the grey fabric is actually pink, which I don’t think shows on screen. I really coveted that one!

Back when these movies were first released, every woman in the audience secretly wondered how beautiful she might look if she had a team of film professionals to analyze, groom and dress her. At least we could enjoy the experience vicariously for the price of a ticket.
