    Hello Kevin, many thanks for your video. It looks like you have forgotten the most 2 important things with this android tablet project: the Steering Wheel Control (SWC) and the Backup Camera (all hardwired to guarantee connection in remote regions, not by bluetooth or wifi). I have seen some TH-camrs using Arduino to hook up the SWC & the Camera but they all rush through and gave no full details for the beginners. Once the SWC or the Camera is programmed into Arduino, the interesting thing is that you hardly notice any delay time when the gear lever is in reverse. I know this video of yours was done as far back as in 2017 and if you have to do another video, you will definitely use different equipment.
    I have the 2011 Ford Escape, Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro (Android 10 OS), rooted with Magisk, TWRP, and Xposed Edge Pro installed. I am currently working on the SWC with Arduino it is used to hack so many things. Take for example, as soon as you remove your factory or aftermarket radio, the clock and some important information disappear. I already have the full information on how to use Arduino to bring back to the screen all the information never seen before, including the clock!
    1. How can I use the Xposed edge pro to communicate with my backup camera? How does the flow chart look like?
    2. If I want my Android Tablet to boot in few seconds and bypass the Samsung Logo, how can I achieve this by using the Xposed framework or Magisk? These are the things that trouble everybody.
    Regards & stay safe.

    Very cool! It would be so cool to 3D print a custom controller to fit into the center counsel style.

    Is that possible to remap Analog Joystick as Arrow keys in Keyboard using this? Also will it work well with OTG connected Playstaion Controller?

    I recently bought the N30 Pro controller and the Legacy firmware is no longer available. My understanding is that we need this firmware to switch the controller to input keyboard commands. Does anyone know if there is another way to setup the controller so that it recognizes keyboard functions? Also, so much time has passed since this video was uploaded that I'm not sure if this setup still works, specifically with the controller I just purchased? Any help would be appreciated!

      Bought a a phone mount from ProClip www.proclipusa.com/. I just mounted the base, not the actual phone clip part, and then used 3M command strips to mount the actual controller to the base mount.

    1. What app you are using to have TH-cam playing in the background? I was using OGTH-cam with microG, but on my Joying head-unit, afer upgrade to Android 6, microG is not longer installable for some reason (on Android 5 was ok and also on other devices with Android 6 the same apk microG is installable with no problem at all).
    2. Did you considered some other controllers, which can mapped to particular actions on Android? Because I'm looking for more elegant, discrete and factory-looking ones. My Joying head unit doesn't even have dial (encoder) for volume control. There's just touch buttons on the side of screen, and touch technology is really not fastest and safest when you are driving. That's why I'm looking for good bluetooth controller, ideally with knob for volume and some buttons for easy switching between apps. Many thanks for sharing the knowledge about Xposed Edge Pro app! Seems to be very useful. But now I'm looking for controller and Sony RM-X7BT looks nice, but it is using IR to comunicate with it's audio-box (for cars without bluetooth), so it's not able to work as standalone bluetooth controller. Also this controller seems to be useful: th-cam.com/video/86WR6F5U5Ig/w-d-xo.html but ideally for me would be mini touchpad or trackball with many buttons. It could be manufactured as round device about 5 cm in diagonal with ring on the side for volume, some clickable buttons on the front and small trackball in the center. I prefer completely wireless controller, because I'm planning to stick it on double-side tape to the arm-rest. I guess by now there's no such product on the market, so we have to adopt gaming equipment or some mini trackball.
    3. On my Joying Android head-unit, when I wanted to remain steering wheel control, only option was to buy special harness to translate CAN commands (when steering wheel buttons are pressed) to analog (resistance signals) in order to control head-unit. I'm curious how you managed to control tablet from steering wheel buttons.
    4. Currently Joying is not planning to upgrade to Android 7 on my Intel Sofia based head-units, so do you know some light-weight apps for getting split screen on Android 6?
    And yes - I'm rooted. Also I can easily install Xposed framework. In fact on XDADevelopers I found app "Joying Extra Tools" for easy tweaking and easy Xposed installing.

      1) Check this out: forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-iytbp-injected-youtube-background-t3560900
      2) I've looked at all sorts of controllers and found that the 8BitDo was the best of them all. There are so many buttons that it allows you to achieve full control over the tablet. Most other controllers had too few buttons or some other drawback. There really is no drawback with the 8BitDo.
      3) Bluetooth enables most of my media steering wheel controls with the Prius.
      4) Xposed Edge can fire off split screen. Just need a button to initiate it.

      Kevin Foreman Thanks for answer. in the meantime it turned out that I cannot use the Xposed Framework because of some software problems on my current version of Android. That's why I was looking for other solution to remap buttons and I installed app called Button Mapper. Free version with root access can do a lot but I experienced that buttons doesn't always are working as mapped. Also this app seems to not support conditional actions.
      Controller I bought is Modecom Vulcano mini gamepad. It's really tiny and I sticked it to the armrest in very comfortable position by heavy duty double side tape and velcro (so I can always take it off from there). Now I think that I should use magnetic sheet instead of velcro.
      Thanks for link to the solution for TH-cam in the background.

    My gamepad is always connected to a power source but I just cant figure out how to keep it alive all the time using the app 'Bluetooth auto connect'.
    Could you please help me out with the app settings for this purpose?

    • @Kev1000000
      @Kev1000000  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which power source are you connected to? Bluetooth auto connect doesn't keep the controller awake, it just auto-reconnects the tablet to the controller when the tablet wakes back up.

    • @mfzmohd6573

      Power source is an external battery always connected to the car and the gamepad. But still the gamepad goes off after every 5 to 6 minutes of inactivity. Forgot to mention that my gamepad is iPega9017s and not an 8bitdo.

    Hey Kevin,
    Great project !!!
    Is there a way to mount the tablet to the CD hole so I will be able to lift up the modified tablet and use the original screen when needed ?
    The only useful feature my 2017 Corollas has is a backup camera so when going in reverse it would be really good to lift up the modified tablet
    The joystick looks very nice and works in a wonderful way when combined with the modified tablet.
    In order to still use the steering wheel volume controls you have connected the modified tablet to the Aux in the car, is that correct ?
    Thanks

    • @Kev1000000
      @Kev1000000  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't look into too many other mounting options since the 3M mounting strips worked so well. I am sure you could rig up something, however, that would achieve that goal.
      Either AUX or BT will work for steering wheel volume controls. I keep the tablet volume at MAX and adjust the stereo volume of the Prius. In order to use the steering wheel controls for skipping tracks, BT must be used.

    kevin, i assume your using OTG to get audio etc from your tablet, how did you get the tablet to charge while being in host mode for the usb devices. I have an OTG Y cable to connect to a hub and receive power at the same time but doesnt seem to charge ... does xPosed solve this ?

    • @Kev1000000
      @Kev1000000  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, I use the 3.5mm AUX for audio, mainly because of this problem.

    • @n8duh
      @n8duh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ah man thats fairly limited in terms of audio quality then? only real way around is a nexus 7 with timurs rom which supports host mode+ charging :(

    • @n8duh
      @n8duh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ideally would have liked a fancier tablet ie zenpad10 but may be stuck with a nexus 7 if i want to amplify the audio
