    For your info this is an ICU vehicle which means it has someone in needs of moving from this hospital to other medical facilities in the smoothest way possible means no hard braking no hard acceleration imagin having tubes and life support hooking to you and you will get the point of an icu

      You could tell this by the way the driver slowed right down over the speed humps.
      I've had such a transfer, intubated, without escorts, but because of Post Traumatic Amnesia, I have no recollection of the 75 km trip with lights and sirens all the way to Melbourne. I was told later, I just made it. My first memory is in ICU.

      They have them. They are called advanced life support units. Available as an oversized ambulance on a Freightliner or Peterbuilt chassis or a Shock Trauma Air Ambulance System (STARS). They are hyper expensive costing a patient well over $50,000.

  • @AndrooUK
    @AndrooUK 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    The speed of the ambulance is not equivalent to the 'urgency' or 'severity' of the patient's condition.
    If someone needs intensive care like this, which means without it they will perish or be disabled, then the nurses and doctors don't need to be bouncing all over the place while trying to read monitors, handle fluids, operate on body parts, provide defibrillation, and/or suck out fluid from lungs.
    It's not just broken bones and childbirth that hospitals and ambulances deal with. For standard ambulances, the patient may be on a special spinal bed for head or neck injury and need a smooth ride to reduce risk of permanent disability, or in shock and need quiet and gentleness, or in cardiac arrest and need CPR and shock paddles.
    It's not just a race to the finish line, because paramedics are still providing care during the trip. An ambulance isn't just an emergency taxi. It's a 'taxi' that has life saving medical equipment and a clinician.
    An ICU ambulance must have some of the best emergency clinicians available, because you can't have the sheer number of specialised clinicians that an ordinary ICU ward would have, and they also have to be able to work in a moving vehicle. An ambulance can only be so big and so gentle.

      Simon Howard it’s a rare sight indeed. The large truck ambulance is called MICU and stands for Mobile Intensive Care Unit. Either to transport an Intensive Care patient from one hospital’s Intensive Care Unit to another (more specialized) hospital / treatment center’s ICU. Or in case of an extreme accident or disaster, to have to possibility to perform life saving surgery in the MICU on site or whilst underway.

    • @speedyjago
      @speedyjago 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @OldLordSpeedy The question was why in Spain the emergency lights are yellow while the rest of Europe has them in blue. But as far as I remember police lights are blue...but ambulances and firefighters lights are I think yellow...haven't been there in a while but damn, that's quite a difference in perceptions for traffic.
      Yep just checked and in Spain only police and guardia civil can have blue/red emergency signals, ambulances and firefighters can only carry yellow ones (so they can be confused for a garbage truck or similar vehicles).
      @jose manuel arellano leal No se porque es eso, habria que cambiar las leyes. Soy bombero voluntario en Suiza y no me puedo imaginar tener que ir a una emergencia con solo las luces amarillas. Con solo las amarillas se puede confundir una ambulancia o los bomberos con cualquier tipo de vehiculos sanitarios o de construccion.

    • @Collateralcoffee
      @Collateralcoffee 7 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      The point is this: The speed is slow because there is an IC patient in the back. The driver is really careful, because they are actually doing stuff in the back, and the patient might be in pain, which will get worse on bumps and stuff. Still, speed is of the essence, so they have an escort which allows them while driving slow, still to cross over lights and stuff without delay, which in turn makes the whole ride smoother and faster.

    • @TheBwaap
      @TheBwaap 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      bumps are taken at certain speeds, etc.
      the most important is that there is no sudden (hard) breaking involved.
      this slowing down and speeding up makes it impossible to work in the back.
      .
      so its better to keep a certain speed, while it seems slow, its the fastest way to halp the person in the back.
      .
      all the police riding bikes are needed to clear a way and be in sight for the ambulance driver, so they work together to keep as much as a constant speed as possible.

      Joel Martin even if it's not at high speeds, a smooth run without constant slowing down and accelerating again can be quite important for a patient transport, no matter if he's just in pain or indeed a critical patient.
      When I'm on a highway, transporting without lights and sirens some so-called pain-patients, which aren't in a critial condition but which still won't tolerate all the slowing down and accelerating over and over again, I usually stay in the left lane although the ambulance has a top speed of only 150 to 160 kph. Of course some people are annoyed by someone crawling at 160 kph in the left lane, but that's what I may do for the patient
