BERLIN: VIOLENT RIOT at pro-Palestinian demonstration - Israel hatred and anti-Semitic slogans - Police intervene - “Many injured colleagues”
The pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin escalated into violence on Sunday. Around 3,500 participants marched from Kottbusser Tor through the city, accompanied by stones, bottles and pyrotechnics that were thrown at police officers. Anti-Israel slogans echoed through the streets. The police eventually had to use force to end the demonstration. Videos on social networks showed a man climbing onto a police car and stirring up the crowd. At the same time, around 500 people nearby called for the release of Israeli hostages at the Brandenburg Gate. Chancellor Scholz called for solidarity with Jews in Germany. The police are already preparing for further protests, as further riots are expected on the anniversary of the Hamas attack.
