      I think this bike would be interesting with much larger rear cases and a rear trunk. The fairing is already big it just needs a large enough windscreen to cater more to touring. The GT is an improvement still trying too hard to split the sport and touring side. I could be wrong but I see touring customers picking this up before people interested in a sport bike. Might as well throw some knobbies in for an adventure version. LoL

  • @darlingimscared

    I think it's funny how all the comments about this bike are guys who wouldn't be seen dead on this as if riding on two wheels makes you a big tough guy, in reality it proves how insecure some guys are. This is an interesting addition and guys should approve it so yamaha take more interesting chances instead of tweaking an r1's fairing for 2020

The thing that impressed me, was how solid it felt on all sort of road surfaces. I definitely recommend test riding this three wheeler. Would I buy it? if I had the finance, I would be riding it now.

    I'm late to the game on your channel but thank you for a very insightful and FUN review of the Niken. I'm fascinated by this bike (motorcycle, I should say) and what I really liked about your review is that when you made the assessment of 'who is this for?' you said folk who like to ride long distances and enjoy every minute of the ride. Thank you for not falling into the dark, deep hole that virtually every other reviewer has plunged down of 'this would be great for riders lacking confidence, maybe coming back from an accident' which immediately condemns the Niken to being seen as some kind of learner aid, like training wheels on a toddler's bicycle!
    It's very refreshing and as soon as I get back to the UK (currently working abroad in a country that really isn't suited to owning a road bike) I plan to test ride one, especially as they are being discounted by around 30% at the moment. Great stuff. I'm now going to pretend to be doing work while I watch my way through your back catalogue. Cheers!

    My impression here is that the tech is really good and works really well - but the bike design is unsure of what it wants to be and was clearly made to keep prices down.
    Using the backend of an FZ09 and then having such a small empty dash are both clear cost-saving methods.
    The bike seems to excel as a sport-tourer. Good in the twisties and on the highway, so it would be nice if it had the accommodations of a good sport-tourer. Give it some great build in storage, add speakers, a bigger windshield, and you have a very special bike for the sport-touring market. Give it a bigger pillion seat option.
    Adding rear-storage would also even out the look of the bike, make it look more consistent and less silly, and you could add some huge side cases to match the width of the front of the bike.
    As is, not sure who the bike is for or what the use-case is.

    • @chaseontwowheels
      @chaseontwowheels  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Or even better make those front areas removable and sell aftermarket mounts for speakers, gps, etc and let people decide what they want to add to the bike to make it their own. That’s what I’d like to see.

    Perhaps the added stability is from having tow wheel/gyroscopes in front. I think that the reason that two wheelers are harder to handle at very low speeds is that there is a big difference in the amount of gyroscopic stability produced comparing road speed to parking lot speed.

  • @CarolanIvey
    @CarolanIvey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's more similar to the Piaggio MP3 than a Slingshot or a Can-Am - two wheels in front, leans like a 2-wheeler. I like that extra contact patch on the ground, about as stable as you can get on wet or gravel roads without it being a traditional rigid trike. The only major difference is the MP3 is an automatic, and it *will* lock upright at the push of a button. However this tilt-lock *will* unlock when you twist the throttle, so it's not a crutch, just a useful feature. The Niken definitely has more power, though!

  • @johnyou35

    Call me crazy, but I LIKE the looks. Futuristic engineering needs futuristic looks. What are they gonna do, build a technologically advanced machine and give it the looks of a Harley Dyna Low Rider?
    It’s impossible to add all of the suspension parts and not make the front extremely wide. And they aren’t going to design a wide, model specific Instrument LCD, because they don’t know if this thing will sell, so they have to keep the cost down.
    I have an FJR1300, and there is no way I can see this thing in the same “class”, but I am intrigued, and can’t wait to ride it.

    The stability you feel in turning is the gyroscopic effect of an extra front wheel: two wheels , twice the stability. I have a Piaggio MP3-500 for commuting and it has the same effect (although less as the wheels are smaller). As a motor bike rider you should be more familiar with gyroscopic stability, it is why we countersteer.

    Very practical touring bike, and also more safe than 2 wheels. What say?

    • @MikeSmith-vb8ul
      @MikeSmith-vb8ul 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I wouldn't say more practical after all touring bikes see a lot of miles. And so can require more frequent maintenance -- now you have to replace two front tires at a time instead of one. Four fork seals instead of two. Oh and if something breaks down at the front? Now you need a mechanic who knows how to work with the fancy front steering mechanism too, and the whole thing will likely be more pricey as well.
      The Niken is more of a "somebody wants an exotic touring motorcycle" market. Exotic yes, practical not necessarily lol
      The whole video seems pretty cheesy too. Even though chase clarified what he was saying about its qualities as, "good in that it's better than some of the other heavy 500+ pound touring bikes out there"-sense, obviously not in that it would run circles around a FZ-07/FZ-09 or other more lighter street or city-oriented motorcycles lol

    High power mode on my Honda is mode 1 and it still doesn't feel completely intuitive to me after 6 months. It seems like a larger numbers should be more power, but I guess it's supposed to be race logic with "1" being the best.

    If it was me I would make the rear as wide as the front and use a fatter rear tire to compensate for the space. Gt is supposed to have saddle bags and a bigger windscreen so we will have to see if it looks better. But it looks like a blast to ride either way

    The two front wheels increases traction and surface area
    ,therefore reducing the chance of a washout so it increases safety and braking power.

    I would not say it is ugly today, 5 years ago it was. But this is well into the 21st century and it is appropriate even with the looks. Yes it looks odd but it is.... Kick-Ass!

    Did they add power to the triple for the Nikken? To pick up both front wheels seems like they tweaked the motor. I do a lot if highway riding and can't lane split in my state, so a wider bike isn't a problem. I like the stability. I'd love to see an MT-10 version.

  • @aria8928
    @aria8928 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd guess the wierd feeling would be something to do with slower flickability as fsr as leaning since there's a shock on whichever side resisting the lean a little.
