People who think monarchy is too expensive... Do you know how much do other kinds of head of state cost?
Presidents of parliamentary republics don't do much more than monarchs of parliamentary monarchies and they also get paid by the people and their taxes and they live a comfortable and luxurious life, not just them but their entire family of course, they live in palaces and such. And we have another president every 5 years or at least every 10 years. And after they are not president anymore because a new one is elected, they still get paid the same way as long as they live. Therefore, in my country right now, we are supporting four such previous presidents plus the current president and all their families. I don't find that much cheaper. I myself would prefer a monarchy which also attracts some tourism and attention to the country.

    • @mariamatmos4506

Lili1127 Other kinds of head of state are CHOSEN by people. The problem with the monarchy is not the money, it is the fact that most of us don’t want a king, and they are still there just because they were born out of the right vagina. Democracy means people’s government, anything which is not chosen by people, shouldn’t have a place in it.

@@mariamatmos4506 Yes, I know that's a problem, but most people speak about the money as the main problem with monarchy, that's why I wrote this comment.
In many countries which are parlamentary republics, presidents are chosen by the Parliament, not directly by the people, so we can elect the president only in an indirect way.
I find it an advantage in a monarchy that those heads of state are educated for their future role throughout their whole lives, while presidents mostly only start to assume their role and get to know their duties as head of state when they are elected, so they do a worse job in that role than some monarchs.
Well, I can only speak from my point of view, my country usually has good for nothing presidents, maybe I would prefer monarchy instead of this. But I know the situation is different in every country so I understand for example that many Spanish people want republic.

I'm left leaning, but I think Monarchies are still important. The days of Imperialism are long gone, but nations across the globe, especially in Europe and Asia, fought, bled and died for their independence with their monarch as their rallying symbol. They represent a solid foundation, something we can look at and remember our homes have survived disease, wars and worse (and, hell, bad leaders). Being proud of your country means not forgetting where you came from, even if you can't justify all of it.

Can’t stand royalty. I’m not hating on this kid, but just the idea that she is important because a long time ago some guy killed some villagers and took control over the land. That’s really all royalty is, descendants of warlords. There’s nothing wrong with being related to bad people but to get special treatment by the entire world because of family background is off putting.

@Random.exe Even in your neighbourhood there might be children having it all only because they have rich parents while others don´t. Nothing to do with Royalty at all. And being envious and jealous don´t make sense.... Just learned once more about a man who earns 32.000 euros a month - I don´t know if he works as much as the King of Spain does - but of course his children also benefit from their fathers income. That´s how things are done in this world, no matter if we like it or not.

When English speakers find out that Spain has a Parliamentary monarchy and is a European country 💁‍♀️, I wonder if they know that England is a European country and has a Parliamentary monarchy and English is spoken (hence the name of the language), as well as the Spanish language / Castilian born in Spain, the Spanish or Castilian language is a European language.
And if you still do not find out there are more Parliamentary Monarchies in Europe and around the World, less in the American continent, because they decided to stop having monarchies.

Abolish monarchy: Spain vote in 1978 and 90% said yes to monarchy.
Monarchy is expensive: spanish monarchy is the less expensive head of state of Europe. Republics like France costs 10 times more with its president.
King does nothing: obviously you dont know how it works. In the background the king talks and made talk to politicians of every ideology. He is the best ambassador and makes a lot of economic deals all around the world for the country. Defends the constitution and stand for the country even when the goverment dont have thet balls to do it (like one year ago when the fascists catalan independentist broke all the laws of the country and he made the prime minister DO his job).
And so on... Spain idiosincrasy needs the monarchy. Republic was terrible for Spain.
Please think before speaking, and if you dont know the subject better shut up.
And finally that little girl will be the next head of state, so either Im in favor or not, I hoped shell be prepared for it. And apparentely she is in the good path.
