FYI: this is not actually a museum, but an actual real village, that’s why there is no entrance fees. Most of the houses are actually being lived 🤓

So great that you actually made it to the Zaanse Schans! It is a very iconic area. I have only been a few years ago, but enjoyed it a lot. Sorry for the bad weather. This spring has been very wet. The last years were a lot drier and warmer. But this is actually how it was before climate change. So, you at least experienced it the authentic way. ;) And you now know why windmills make a lot of sense.
Of course it made me very happy to hear that you now both love Amsterdam and plan to come back! But of course the rest of the country and Europe in general have so much more to offer. Always happy to be your tour guide!

There are windmills build in the old days which pump water from lower level to higher level. We call the 'poldermolens' (english: polder mill, japanese: 干拓地 / Kantaku-chi). I don't know if there is a poldermill in Zaanse Schans though.

People actually living there , it’s not a museum. Next time when you visit Amsterdam, you can visit Marken near Amsterdam, there are a lot of traditional wooden houses ( almost only) , a harbor etc . It’s a former island . It’s about 25 km. You can go by bus from Amsterdam. There are a lot of typical farms and houses in the north of Noord-Holland and also typical Dutch city’s like Alkmaar , Hoorn etc. For a very interesting open air museum you must visit Enkhuizen , it’s beautiful.

Yes typical Dutch weather😭😭 Many of the nowadays still working farms have these houses. They often only updated the barn, especially with different regulations.

Yes, this is typical Dutch weather. And I'm glad that it's going to be better from Sunday. Loved the video. I've never been to the Zaanse Schans. And I only live 25 kilometers from it.

As we say here in NL: hier en daar een bui😂 There is another op air museum about the draining of Flevoland and how the Dutch people lived back in the day. It's called zuiderzeemuseum but it's further from Amsterdam😅

Great video guys! I am happyto see and also very interested how a Japanese person can experience such a landscape as ours. My golden rule about the weather: don't expect a prognosis and be prepaired for anything!

I remember taking the train or bus to Zaandijk then walking across the bridge to Zaanse Schans and it smelling like chocolate as we crossed the bridge because there was a chocolate factory nearby.

Do not think that the whole of the Netherlands has rainy and windy weather. The coastal provinces have the most rain and wind but aren’t that cold in winter and not that hot in summer.
The provinces of North Brabant, Limburg, Gelderland are much dryer and less windy. Warmer in summer but a bit colder in winter.

does that really never happen in Japan, that the weather changes from good to bad and back again during a day? That you find it so crazy amazes me. Over here, it's totally normal spring weather. (btw, it's not "Dutch" weather, it's like that in Belgium and the North of France as well, windmills and all). And is hail an unexisting phenomenon in Japan? How funny.

Unfortunately Dutch weather has been a hit and missed and the last 20 years, and with the country being so flat, it gets really wet and windy. Sorry that you didn't get nicer weather, but it gives you an excuse to visit the country again and see other part of the country.
