Yeah I think of VGRB this is one of their best. In my opinion Mario's voice could have been better but Sonic's was outstanding. VGRB has put some crap content out in their time but this one isn't one of them. I do think they suffer a lot from the "throwing too many syllables into one bar" disease though.

I'm pretty sure that the "sewers of New York" line was a diss about how in the Super Mario Bros movie that crashed and burned back in the 90's, Mario and Luigi were literally plumbers who worked in the the sewers in New York. The PETA thing is actually a reference to how PETA has actually attacked Nintendo for "promoting animal cruelty" with Mario with how he jumps on turtles and wears animal furs coats as powerups. They've even made a parody "game" where you have to play as a skinned Tanooki that has to chase after Mario because he's running around wearing your fur. Yeah, PETA can be pretty messed up when it comes to games, especially Pokémon. Now that you're reacting (or at least, have reacted to) this channel, I'd be interested in seeing you do the battle that's kind of a followup to this one. Bowser vs Dr. Eggman. The voices really aren't accurate to the characters, but otherwise, it's a really good battle IMO. Edit: The Sonic fanbase is split into 3 camps. One is the haters who will viciously attack anyone or anything that says anything negative to the series. The funny thing is that PETA actually is right on this one. At one of the corners a man stood with a whip and whipped him, that unnamed man is jumpman, also known as Mario. :) So Mario actually started his career in videogames as the villain.
The True Colors line was in reference to Sonic Colors as well. Then the Black and Blue line is a reference to Sonic and The Black Night and there is a band called Sonic Syndicate which has a song called Black and Blue, Idk if they were going for that but it works with Sonic in their name as well

The Olympic games diss is a reference to the fact that those games are developed entirely by Sega, who has the rights towards them, but released by Nintendo. For what it worth, Nintendo doesn't do any development in the Olympic games at all. Sonic is saying that in the Olympic games, he's owning Mario in the events and that in Olympic games series, Sega owns Mario.
I think at the time of this rap battle, Sonic sold more games (non spinoffs) then Mario. Also this predates Oddesy I believe. Also no live action movie line wich is odd. Ps: Sonic Generations is A great game.

Part of me wonders if maybe what Sonic meant by the "dissed all your titles because they're all the same" line was more a reference to the fact that *most* Mario games exist in a form of stasis of Bowser kidnapping Peach and/or causing general grief for Mario and the plumber having to fix everything. While Sonic's games do generally fit the same mold of Eggman/Robotnik causing chaos and/or having to hunt down the Chaos Emeralds, many Sonic games at least try to differ in some way or another (Sonic Adventure letting you play a number of characters, Sonic Adventure 2's semi-unique gameplay with Tails and Eggman using their mech things, an RPG-style game, etc) and include new characters every few titles while most Mario games you can only play Mario and they try to avoid going outside the mold too much and don't really introduce any new characters all that often. Either way, as someone who enjoyed Sonic games more, Mario's games were still more diverse by virtue of having a larger mold they would use.
The “hell of ‘06” line also refers to the fact that the “Sonic.exe” creepypasta was based around a Sonic ‘06 being found and corrupted. Although yes, it is and was somewhat deemed as the start of the downhill that sonic games have taken.

Before Mario says: "Black and blue" , which also references Sonic and The Black Knight he says: The world will see your true COLORS" this is reference to Sonic Colors from 2010. You caught one meaning of ring bar because: "The secret is rings" references Sonic and The Secret Rings(I don't recommend it). Later Sonic says: "My lyrics will rise" and that is reference to one of the Sonic Boom titles called Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. In: "I've been crushing fat men for generations" a reference to Sonic Generations. PETA line was more about how PETA tried to sue Mario couple o times because of animal abuse. When Mario said about roadkill he said about fast food which is funny because FAST and there's a chance he also means that roadkill(Sonic) is gonna be served there as a food- FAST food. PS. I don't agree about Sonic Generations! This game was great better than Sonic Lost World, Sonic Boom or Sonic Forces.
When Mario had the plumber bar saying the sonic games were trash, I don’t get why they used generations. Love it or hate it, it’s arguably the best or second best received sonic game in a LONG time, and one of the best received sonic games ever. There’s so many sonic games that are widely considered to be shit even from the people who enjoy sonic games, such as 06, the boom series, the storybook series, and forces.

Part of me wonders if maybe what Sonic meant by the "dissed all your titles because they're all the same" line was more a reference to the fact that *most* Mario games exist in a form of stasis of Bowser kidnapping Peach and/or causing general grief for Mario and the plumber having to fix everything. While Sonic's games do generally fit the same mold of Eggman/Robotnik causing chaos and/or having to hunt down the Chaos Emeralds, many Sonic games at least try to differ in some way or another (Sonic Adventure letting you play a number of characters, Sonic Adventure 2's semi-unique gameplay with Tails and Eggman using their mech things, an RPG-style game, etc) and include new characters every few titles while most Mario games you can only play Mario and they try to avoid going outside the mold too much and don't really introduce any new characters all that often.
Either way, as someone who enjoyed Sonic games more, Mario's games were still more diverse by virtue of having a larger mold they would use.
Also, the New Super Mario games exist. As far as variety, sonic has had more of it. Mainly from 2005-2010. Post-2010 not so much.

The “hell of ‘06” line also refers to the fact that the “Sonic.exe” creepypasta was based around a Sonic ‘06 being found and corrupted. Although yes, it is and was somewhat deemed as the start of the downhill that sonic games have taken.

Before I start sorry for my bad English, I'm from Poland. There are some references you missed or didn't point out. Before Mario says: "Black and blue" , which also references Sonic and The Black Knight he says: The world will see your true COLORS" this is reference to Sonic Colors from 2010. You caught one meaning of ring bar because: "The secret is rings" references Sonic and The Secret Rings(I don't recommend it). Later Sonic says: "My lyrics will rise" and that is reference to one of the Sonic Boom titles called Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric. In: "I've been crushing fat men for generations" a reference to Sonic Generations. PETA line was more about how PETA tried to sue Mario couple o times because of animal abuse. When Mario said about roadkill he said about fast food which is funny because FAST and there's a chance he also means that roadkill(Sonic) is gonna be served there as a food- FAST food.
PS. I don't agree about Sonic Generations! This game was great better than Sonic Lost World, Sonic Boom or Sonic Forces.

When Mario had the plumber bar saying the sonic games were trash, I don’t get why they used generations. Love it or hate it, it’s arguably the best or second best received sonic game in a LONG time, and one of the best received sonic games ever. There’s so many sonic games that are widely considered to be shit even from the people who enjoy sonic games, such as 06, the boom series, the storybook series, and forces.
I've been feeling so nostalgic that I ordered Sonic Adventure DX and I've also been playing a lot of Paper Mario: TTYD for GameCube until it comes next week because those were my childhoods 😞 I miss the good ole days
