@Nyavos How can they be Turkish food, if Turkey is just a 100 year old country? And we all know the Ottomans were a nomadic tribe. They never invented anything, only took. All of the Eastern Mediterranean cuisine has been shared and evolved through centuries between Greece , Egypt and the Levant.. I give more credits to countries like Syria and Israel, than to an impostor like Turkey. I won't even include the rest of the Balkans, because, even though they share the same cuisine more or less, the dishes themselves have been heavily modified for the most part, they no longer resemble their predecessor.

If only you guys have tried the original ones :/ this baklava seemed so dry .... (without much syroup)And mousaka contains eggplants as well and no onion :/
Either way, the real moussaka (musaqqa?) probably exists outside Greece. Probably the Turkish one is more original and the word is etymologically Arabic. Originally the word was probably used for 'chilled' eggplants and a Greek chef who had studied in France created the modern recipe with the bechamel sauce, potatoes, minced meat etc. By the way, I've seen in Wikipedia that 'lamb' is used supposedly. I don't know if that was ever true but in my family we have been using beef minced meat since... always and maybe there are some people who use beef mixed with pork minced meat instead.
Maybe the creator of modern Greek mussaka was aware of a dish similar to the Turkish one but in which instead of bechamel sauce, there was a sauce made from milk or yogurt and eggs, because something like that exists in the Balkans.

As an Egyptian living in Alexandria, I have been eating Greek cuisine🇬🇷 all of my life and thinking it is Egyptian😅🇪🇬. The funny thing is when I travel abroad people compliment me for my Egyptian food 😂🇪🇬🇬🇷
Greeks and italians who emigrated to Egypt between 1850 and 1900, taught you many dishes, like Greek-italian pastitsio. Like French taught Algerians to eat Baguette. You have to be grateful to Southern Europeans for giving you so many dishes
I am not a fan of octopus myself but I must say I never encountered a person in France (where I am from) who don't like Greek food. It's awesomely tasty, fresh, Mediterranean and some dishes are pretty close of what you can found in southern France. It's probably because the city of Marseille (among others) has been built by Phocean people.
Thank you for that. Another question I have is; how do you cook and serve lampreys? I imagine that they are sort of fried, then served on a bed of onions with some good Irish beer.
I was too young to remember her before mine died. Since we live in America, it's complicated to meet up with my ancestors. My dad never really taught me the language or traditions so... AGH.
as much as i love you irish let's be real your cuisine is not even close to greek greek food is yummy and you missed some elemental foods here: saganaki (flambeed fried cheese), spanakopita (spinach and feta cheese pie), taramasalata (fish roe spread), loukoumades (honey donuts) and grilled halloumi cheese (altough to be fair that one is more cypriot than greek)
The guy that said that he will never eat Greek food again... he is a fool! It's his loss actually! :) Since we have Mediterranean climate, veggies, fruits, and everything in general are more tasteful from a country much colder, as Ireland! Its not only the complexity of a food, or the way it was cooked, but fresh and quality ingredients are pretty important as well! Greek cousin, has a huge variety of tastes, but since i m Greek, i will not express an opinion! So... my personal opinions are: British cousin, nothing special! French cousin, ok but...pfff... German cousin, yea. Bulgarian cousin, yea!! Serbian cousin, oh yea!! Chinese cousin, oh oh yea!! Spanish (Basque) cousin, oh oh oh yea!!!!!
We have a Greek restaurant where I live, and it's completely family owned and run. They're all from Greece and the food is aboslutely _amazing._ A little pricey, though, but totally worth it.
I take it that international dishes just are not that big of a deal in Ireland. Because it's weird how we in America are more familiar with Greek food than Europeans.
Chicago has a Greek Town, a German Town, a Chinatown, a Ukrainian Village, La Villita (Mexican), Paseo Boricua (Puerto Rican), a Little Italy, a Little Warsaw, a Little Saigon, a Little India and Pakistan, etc … It's very easy to expose yourself to diverse food and cultures here because our entire country is made up of immigrants.
jimmy Ryan Indian food seems to be to the UK what Mexican food is to the US, it's everywhere and of varying quality. As to exposure to Indian food in America, that greatly depends on where you live. I've lived in a town with a heavy Indian population where there were several Indian grocery stores and quite a few restaurants. I've also lived in a rural town where the most "exotic" food you could find within a 25 mile radius was a Mexican restaurant that was only a couple steps up from Taco Bell.
It has predominantly historical reasons. The Ottoman Empire occupied vast territories of southern- and eastern-europe for more than a century, introducing a wide variety of middle-eastern dishes to local cuisines. A lot of these foods are near identical in Turkey, Greece, the Balkans etc. etc. with minor local variations.
First; foods like Baklava , Tzatziki , Mousakka and Dolmades are not Greek , Turkish , or Lebanese. Its Mediterranean , Aegean and Anatolian. Second; We call this cultural interaction. (Like Arabs puts lots of sugar in their desserts , Turks mostly puts doughy-stuff , Greeks puts pistachio , walnut , etc. Combining all of them equals the ingredients of Baklava.) Third; Greeks and Turks lived together for 400 years. Many Turks in Western Anatolia knows how to speak Greek , and Eastern Greeks (Example :Thessalonikians ) knows how to speak Turkish. It's an evidence of cultural interaction. Greetings from Istanbul to Athens! :3
I'm Greek and I was laughing through out this whole video. Locally, food is way better than this. I can actually tell just by looking at it in the vid! I love how people from other countries struggle to get the grasp of some foods, as I would in their country lol
the food is screwed, thats why we are angry ;-) if u gonna represent something, do it right... mousaka for example is nothing like the one they got.... it is with eggplant, potatoes, minced meat and bechamel sauce, topped with feta cheese... what they got was an adjustment of greek food for locals
@Sophia Katsis mousaka has no cream... and also has a lot of potato ... i never had shepards pie though, so i wouldnt know ... dont get pissed if they cannot pronounce something, they heard and ate it for the first time ;-) i am pissed cause the food is not authentic
+Nadia Mohamed You know a lot about them all. I wanted to ask about one of the other redheads, but is one of their names spelled Blathin or Blaithin? I see both spellings a lot. (Phone only lets me use basic characters, I know the vowels are accented. *And thanks for pointing out my mistake, I keep doing that! Grr)

Grilled Octopus is beyond divine! Much different texture than the boiled (which it seems they got served). I'm disappointed they didn't serve them some of the famous Greek-style pies like "Spanakopita". Nevertheless, Mediterranean cuisine is unmatched!

Can't Greeks stop complaining? For example Greeks say this is not what we eat this is what we eat.Thats complaining.I was born in Greece and I know Greek food is awesome.
Some trivia, “dolma” means “stuffed” and “sarma” means “wrapped” in Turkish. They are derived from the verbs “dolmak” and “sarmak”. We call stuffed bellpeppers as dolma and the one with wrapped vine leaves as sarma.
Ok congrats. We all know the name is turkish who will say "gemista ampelophila" like baklava it's easier for us to say, not to mention that we where under turkish control for centuries but chill man.

"Irish people try Galician food" would be a very fun episode: Filloas de sangre (blood crepes), polbo a feira, lampreys, androlla, barnacles...

Nah, blood pudding is more like a sausage, filloas de sangre is a dessert.

Is Ireland completely cut off from the rest of the world to the point that they have never tried any other food except Irish?
You're adorable.
+Man on phone I guess I am assuming then?
+Grainne Mhaol I am serious. I get that most of these videos are for views but it seems a little ubsurd
*absurd, sweetness.
+Grainne Mhaol I cannot stop laughing.
2:02 I'm just here to see the triggered Turks
Oh please no, Greek/Turkish internet flame wars have been a thing almost since TH-cam started.
I'm turkish and I'm sure that my mom is triggered as fuck😂
Do you live in ireland? do you know where i can get the vine leaves so i can make the Dolma myself? canned Dolma is awful lol
+ColinsCity nope, I live in the netherlands and my grandma sends them all the way from turkey :)
Wow you are so lucky:D
The guy that said that he will never eat Greek food again... he is a fool! It's his loss actually! :)
Since we have Mediterranean climate, veggies, fruits, and everything in general are more tasteful from a country much colder, as Ireland!
Its not only the complexity of a food, or the way it was cooked, but fresh and quality ingredients are pretty important as well!
Greek cousin, has a huge variety of tastes, but since i m Greek, i will not express an opinion!
So... my personal opinions are:
British cousin, nothing special!
French cousin, ok but...pfff...
German cousin, yea.
Bulgarian cousin, yea!!
Serbian cousin, oh yea!!
Chinese cousin, oh oh yea!!
Spanish (Basque) cousin, oh oh oh yea!!!!!
theodoroska someone's pretty cocky over here
By the way it’s not cousin but cuisine! and French food it’s not Ok pffff. But since I’m French I will not express an opinion.
You guys! Don’t fight! It’s all delicious!
The guy that laughed reminds me of Harry Potter's bullies.
theodoroska ditto on the Spanish cuisine. It is amazing. Tapas for the win!!! Mediterranean’s know how to eat!
We have a Greek restaurant where I live, and it's completely family owned and run. They're all from Greece and the food is aboslutely _amazing._ A little pricey, though, but totally worth it.
Next time feed them kokoretsi and tell me what it is afterwards! muahaha
I love you XD
What kind spices in that? It looks pretty enough.
NOT ONION IN MOUSAKA! EGGPLANTS!!! Cool video though :p
ya, but theres onion in the meat mixture
Greek squid is called calamari. And isn't it supposed to be deep fried with a layer outside it? Greek food is seriously the best
...You realize that squids and octopus' are 2 different animals, right?
Eric Cartman depends on how you cook it.
In France we call it calamar... thank you Greece for your language influences ! France loves you.
no calamari is fried squid. octopothi is grilled octopus with lemon usually :) sooooo delicious!
Eric Cartman hahaha thanks im from Greece i eat this foods everyday i love them more than a burger 😍😍
I'm Greek but I don't know how to speak Greek. Greek cuisine is one of the best cuisine in the world..!
Όταν η άλλη είπε μπαλακλαβας 😂😂😂😂
I take it that international dishes just are not that big of a deal in Ireland. Because it's weird how we in America are more familiar with Greek food than Europeans.
There is a bigger mix of cultures in the US because there are more immigrants from around the world.
Probably because there are more Greek immigrants in America
Chicago has a Greek Town, a German Town, a Chinatown, a Ukrainian Village, La Villita (Mexican), Paseo Boricua (Puerto Rican), a Little Italy, a Little Warsaw, a Little Saigon, a Little India and Pakistan, etc … It's very easy to expose yourself to diverse food and cultures here because our entire country is made up of immigrants.
But Americans aren't as exposed to Indian food.
jimmy Ryan
Indian food seems to be to the UK what Mexican food is to the US, it's everywhere and of varying quality.
Whenever I have a bad day. I just go to 2:55. Such a genuine, yet overly-dramatic reaction.
I looked for it and laughed! Thanx
Trust me, this NOTHING like traditional Greek cuisine
baklava is also an Arabic dish
They all have similar and delicious dishes that will kill you if you eat them regularly.
It probably differs in the flavour of the syrup used. One area has rosewater, another has honey. I think rosewater is more Arabic.
It's European, Arabic, Greek ok we all share it.
Its Ottoman Food
I really like that lady with the Raise Boys tshirt. She seems really outgoing and fun
She's a cancerous boil on the ass of human kind.
***** how terrible...
+Hassan Chop looking at mirror han!
+Hassan Chop because of her shirt?
+Nadia Mohamed he could mean it, people are offended by gender equality.
The redhead is gorgeous.
I'm not liking the androgynous look... I don't care too much about the short either.
She looks like a young, hot Julia Child and I'm super okay with that.
agreed
First; foods like Baklava , Tzatziki , Mousakka and Dolmades are not Greek , Turkish , or Lebanese. Its Mediterranean , Aegean and Anatolian. Second; We call this
cultural interaction. :3
Ali Rıza İpek it is Greek u silly Muslim :)
I'm Greek and I was laughing through out this whole video.
Locally, food is way better than this. I can actually tell just by looking at it in the vid!
I love how people from other countries struggle to get the grasp of some foods, as I would in their country lol
So many angry greeks in the comments wtf
Most of them liked all of it, the only thing contested was the octopus
Almost every video is like this because they always screw up the food.
the food is screwed, thats why we are angry ;-) if u gonna represent something, do it right... mousaka for example is nothing like the one they got.... it is with eggplant, potatoes, minced meat and bechamel sauce, topped with feta cheese... what they got was an adjustment of greek food for locals
@Sophia Katsis mousaka has no cream... and also has a lot of potato ... i never had shepards pie though, so i wouldnt know ... dont get pissed if they cannot pronounce something, they heard and ate it for the first time ;-) i am pissed cause the food is not authentic
@Sophia Katsis then ur mum makes it wrong ;-) greeks dont use cream in cooking at all...
Ασε ρε γιδι που το παιζεις και ξενος και θιγεσαι

You are beautiful people and the way of cooking indian food is delicius !!... greetings from Greece !
What happened to Fionn? I miss him
was that the guy with black hair and black beard? Hilarious as hell? I miss him too
Thank you Nadia yes! That's him. I don't know any names ;p;
check my channel
+Nadia Mohamed You know a lot about them all. I wanted to ask about one of the other redheads, but is one of their names spelled Blathin or Blaithin? I see both spellings a lot. (Phone only lets me use basic characters, I know the vowels are accented. *And thanks for pointing out my mistake, I keep doing that! Grr)
Crap I meant to put the L in there, I keep hitting R for some reason! I was actually just coming back to edit it.
You have the best food ever Greece!
-Love from Serbia😘
@Grabbed You By The Pussy oh ok
We have the best cousine of the world with turkey and Cyprus ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We have a lot of greek and mediterranean restaurants where I live, but my favorite is the one right near my house. They make the best food...and I've had everything in this video lol
Squidward is a squid, Zoidberg is a lobster alien. neither are octopi.
Squidward is actually a six-legged octopus.
Really familiar with bulgarian food!Sagapao poli all greeks!Greece is my favourite country.
Grilled Octopus is beyond divine! Much different texture than the boiled (which it seems they got served). I'm disappointed they didn't serve them some of the famous Greek-style pies like "Spanakopita". Nevertheless, Mediterranean cuisine is unmatched!
hey greedings from Greece!!! and if you are disappointed then thats why you choose some not so good greek dishes...i would recommended to you to try ion chocolate sooo good οποίος είναι από ελλαδα λαικ...
1:25 that's DEFINITELY NOT the way we serve souvlaki.
i worked ones in Ireland in a restaurant, will never forget my first order: carbonara with mashed potato and a pint of milk! Thats where i knew i want last more the a few month in Ireland.
I am so proud of my coyntry's food Greek food is the most delicious food ever GO GREECE

Memo Sosisi Baklava from Greece
Kai emena ala pio poli ta makaronia
watching these videos, i realize how spoiled we are in the USA that most, if not all of the foods they've tried, are easily accessible in most parts of the country.
I love how they pronounce every thing, growing up hering my pappoús and yia yia saying this I can tell how badly they pronounce it but I still thought it was helarious
Could people please stop saying things like:
oh, I can't believe Greek people eat this
oh, Greek food isn't actually greek they just stole it from the Turks
AND PEOPLE! People from Greece are called Greek, not Greece people!
The Turkish are as new as modern America, so yea... the greeks had it millennia before
It was tzatziki. Its youghurt with olive oil ,cucumber and garlic. What was so strange about it?
Oh, please do these in America....and cast me. I would absolutely LOVE this.
i love dolmades. i go out of my way to get them whenever available.
Hello from Greece-Athens.
I went to a party once where they served grape leaf dumplings/spring rolls/whatever the fuck they were. Dunk those bastards in the yogurt dip and holy shit.
I'm salivating just thinking about them.
Oh yeah, and they're even better with good hummus dip.
I love how aggressively you love them
Dolmades. Being greek I grew up on this shit. Though I have never in my life seen anyone eat them except with avgolemono sauce or plain.
FlannelLemon .he's an aggressive lover
I like SQUIDward never thought id eat him though, he says while eating octopus
squidward is an octopus squids are slim
+Leah Williams squidward is most definitely a squid
He's an octopus - the series creators say so and they should know ^_~
selkie76 But... Squid?
He's missing a couple legs then. lol
In Cyprus we make dolmades as well but we stuff them with mince too. Not only rice.
Isn't mousakka made with lamb, aubergines and potatoes?
Yes, also it has Bechamel Sauce on top layer.
In Greece they don't put both aubergines and potatoes, it's either one or either and potatoes are used if you can't afford the aubergines.
***** Perhaps different regions do it differently but where i'm from we don't use potatoes at all.
there is minced meat in mousakas just like in pastitsio, you can add zuchini if you like, eggplant, potatoes that basically
Daisy Lea let's not forget beschamel sauce and kefalotiri cheese 😎
You can't introduce someone to Greek food without having them taste lamb gyros or spanakopita (spinach pie).
So we now have Black Jacket Guy, Leather Jacket Guy, Little Orphan Annie/Barb, Jesus Guy, etc...?
Jesus guy isn't Jesus guy, He's H Block guy.
I'm in Greece and I glad you liked it!
You also have to taste kokoretsi. Its
the heart, lung and liver of lamb covered with guts.Really tasty

😢hey bro..we love you(❤Greece)
I live in western Canada a long way from Greece how do Europeans get to be 20 years old and never eaten Greek food seriously they live in a European capital city what is with chubby if you don't like it don't eat it but is the fake puking necessary
Love the commentary, i always laugh. Now for the scenery, really dig the red heads =)
How on Earth can people in a large European city not have had all those standard Greek foods?
Like, seriously, are you guys going to have your next video be Irish people marvel at exotic Italian dishes like pizza and spaghetti?
because they don't have a large amount of Greek immigrants obviously
Cause Greek food isn't popular there
actually they do we have like 100.000 people in the UK probably not Ireland .
Lol, i thought the same. They're probably Irish hillbillies though, so cut them some slack.

They don’t have Greek food in Ireland? I love Shepard’s pie and chicken pot pie! It was not until I went to Greece that I realized when I kept ordering gyros what they give us in America is no where close! I wish u guys had tried pistachio it’s my favorite!

Captain Marios I'm not Greek but hummus is the bomb I'm American though

Some trivia, “dolma” means “stuffed” and “sarma” means “wrapped” in Turkish. They are derived from the verbs “dolmak” and “sarmak”. We call stuffed bellpeppers as dolma and the one with wrapped vine leaves as sarma.
Ok congrats. We all know the name is turkish who will say "gemista ampelophila" like baklava it's easier for us to say, not to mention that we where under turkish control for centuries but chill man.
