It's not a question of whether he liked him or not; it's about homeless WW2 veteran and a lot of people from that time did like him; he was a big forces entertainer, the same as Glenn Miller who died in similar circumstances.
Richard at his best. One of the greatest story tellers and best guitar players around. Saw him live around this time. Sheer magic!!!
This song stole my breath when I heard it on some LA radio station late October 1987. Damn if I still haven't recovered in September 2022.
I love this song. I saw him play it at a small club in 1986. A consummate guitarist and performer.
If there is a heaven and I am not saying there is - I'll book a ticket for a seat at an Al Bowlly concert.

Thanks Richard...agree with your sentiments completely..
Brilliant and haunting.
Al Bowlly 🕊
Winter made Summer 2017: "Hard times . . . the wear and the tear of it . . ."
Beautiful.
"I traded my helmet and my parachute
For a pair of crutches and a demob suit"
Best two-liner I have ever heard
Magic song.
Superb
A little bit of Django in the guitar solo.
Noone compares to Richard.
Omg!!!🖤🖤🖤
Superb.
Very good song which reminds me of Randy Newman's 'God's Song'.
Customarily excellent
In good company with John Prine's "Sam Stone."
The proper way to describe this would be ... Elvis Costello's "God's Comic" is a similar arrangement, three years later.
Do you have any other Daring Adventure's songs?

@Jenny :
Ha--I know what you mean, but this is, after all, the same guy who once wrote a song about Jimmy Shands.
Al bowlly was great.
Al Bowlly is definitely worth checking out. Keep an open mind. He was a great singer and guitar player

He is singing about Al bowlly a 1920s Jazz Singer who tragically died during ww2
Al Bowlly - who recorded between 1926 (it is believed) and 1941 - died in the London bombings -one of the most underrated voices of the last century
