I like your guide and i have a slightly newer model still with the Ryzen 5 3500U which is the GWNR51416 which the odd thing is for my M.2 slot Gateway tells me it is only for Sata but in the bios there is an option for NVMe that is says which makes me a little confused.

Regarding your question, I have a solid 17 years of experience working with and repairing laptops. However, I must admit that this particular laptop has presented me with a unique challenge due to its inconsistent and perplexing data.
At our store, we've received identical laptop models, yet one accepts NVMe drives while the other only supports M.2 SATA drives. Even with AMD CPUs, the BIOS might indicate NVMe compatibility, leading us to install an NVMe drive successfully. However, we recently encountered a similar AMD model where the BIOS claimed NVMe support but ended up only accepting M.2 SATA drives.
Based on my experience, I suggest acquiring an NVMe drive and testing it. If it doesn't work, you can take advantage of Amazon's free return policy and exchange it for an M.2 SATA drive. Regrettably, I cannot provide a definitive answer since even the support line doesn't seem to have accurate information. They tend to err on the side of caution by recommending M.2 SATA drives.
If you have any more inquiries or requests in the future, please feel free to reach out. Your satisfaction is important to us!

I have a gwtn156-4bk that I am wanting to upgrade to a 1tb nvme drive, however I have read on other forums that the internal pcie slot would not recognize their NVME drive in the BIOS, nor would it read a M.2 SATA drive larger than 256GB. Did you have to change anything in the BIOS once you upgraded this laptop to an NVME drive for it to recognize the drive or anything?
