I will say in nyc renting a car from the airport is actually usually a better deal since the airports are out of the way and less acessible, it's a hassle to get there especially on public transit. And nyc airports have an overstock of cars so they're eager to rent them. I'm speaking from experience as a new yorker who takes at least five road trips a year and rents cars out of nyc
