The white flight of the old east end of London sold their gifted council houses which they paid almost nothing for to move to much cheaper areas such as Clacton, Would you like to know how the voting Brexit town of Clacton are doing now.

Birmingham had great redevelopment around 20 years ago, and was on the way up. I was there two weeks ago and shocked at how badly it's gone downhill. Apart from the tram, there has been no investment in the last ten years. The city centre looks like shit, when it could have a lot going for it.
Birmingham was ok in up until the 90s. its a terrible shit hole these days, what gets me is property prices have a starting price or around 180k. with many earning as little as 25K id never dream of taking out a 30 year mortgage to have the privilege to live in Brum. especially when interest rates are so high, pack up and move to either another city or abroad.
@@jonathanlake6053 you could mortgage a house in the 70s with a load 3x your salary. even at 20% interest the monthly payments were a fraction of my monthly income compared to what they would be today, in 2024 even with relatively low interest rates the monthly payments are extortionate due to the properties being overpriced.

Up until early 2000s the city centre was full of smartly dressed attractive people, it was somewhere you'd gladly take a girl from the office for a lunchtime walk. Nowadays it's somewhere to avoid, very depressing and odd

The pandemic was a disaster for many small and medium sized businesses. There was a massive transfer of wealth to the big corporations . The supermarkets fared well by and large. Many towns and cities will not recover for a long time, if ever.
We're automating all the admin jobs - the office workers who used to stroll around in their best outfits are long gone. And internet shopping has killed what's left. We need to think very carefully where this is leading
Reflects the country overall. Blame immigration, local councils, any number of easy targets but the reality is central government have decimated funding at a local level which has caused local authorities to slash services, increase business rates and council tax and essentially crisis manage their respective areas. It’s a lose lose situation. Unfortunately folk tend to look locally for explanations when it’s Westminster that are largely responsible.
Our council was corrupt and had to pay massive. To a point of dept. 500 million, and that only what's been announced. Lord knows how much they truly need to bounce back. But it doesn't help with an influx immigration. The company's jumping ship to Europe after the recession / brexit. Need a pure reform. Money needs to stay in the country to not only to the major city's, towns, and villages but to our overall infrastructure. Such ashame
Makes me laugh when I see videos like this, if you think it’s bad now it was much, much worse 10/15 years ago. Of all the major uk cities I’d say the centre of Birmingham feels the most developed and well planned.

Turn the empty shops in to flats,
Why? To house more immigrants? How about we stop immigration and concentrate on the people in this country first. More housing is not the answer.
