Friend of mine had 3 shops in the centre , he sold them as soon as the council said congestion charge and no parking ...Well done the thick Brummie council , he is in Leicester now doing very well , he said the city centre of Birmingham will die within 5 years ...And he is right ....

Mostly happening in “Multi-cultural” - basically non-white areas. If you think I’m wrong then travel through London and see it on a grander scale. Wherever white flight happens the place is devastated. Croydon is particularly bad and other areas similar to it are on the increase.

Birmingham had great redevelopment around 20 years ago, and was on the way up. I was there two weeks ago and shocked at how badly it's gone downhill. Apart from the tram, there has been no investment in the last ten years. The city centre looks like shit, when it could have a lot going for it.

Birmingham was ok in up until the 90s. its a terrible shit hole these days, what gets me is property prices have a starting price or around 180k. with many earning as little as 25K id never dream of taking out a 30 year mortgage to have the privilege to live in Brum. especially when interest rates are so high, pack up and move to either another city or abroad.

@@jonathanlake6053 you could mortgage a house in the 70s with a load 3x your salary. even at 20% interest the monthly payments were a fraction of my monthly income compared to what they would be today, in 2024 even with relatively low interest rates the monthly payments are extortionate due to the properties being overpriced.

Reflects the country overall. Blame immigration, local councils, any number of easy targets but the reality is central government have decimated funding at a local level which has caused local authorities to slash services, increase business rates and council tax and essentially crisis manage their respective areas. It’s a lose lose situation. Unfortunately folk tend to look locally for explanations when it’s Westminster that are largely responsible.

Our council was corrupt and had to pay massive. To a point of dept. 500 million, and that only what's been announced.
Lord knows how much they truly need to bounce back.
But it doesn't help with an influx immigration. The company's jumping ship to Europe after the recession / brexit.
Need a pure reform. Money needs to stay in the country to not only to the major city's, towns, and villages but to our overall infrastructure.
