Thank you for your kind words! Agree, MAIN is a brilliant holding. Are the others you hold on that same cluster of qualitatively good picks like ARCC, GLAD or GAIN, HTGC etc? Yeah, FDUS is interesting, seems to fly under the radar, seems to perform well but hasn't received the bump in valuation premium that MAIN has, for instance. FDUS Dividends are also inconsistent which will turn off some investors... So it isn't a perfect case of FDUS is superior to MAIN, but it is certainly with checking out for many investors I suspect...
interesting points, first time I see PCA used for stocks. What variables and what time period you used in your PCA ? it could matter for clusters. Seems to me that switching is only advisable if you have a short term approach but not if you are a holder, BDCs seem more adequate to income oriented holders. FDUS does not compare to MAIN in market cap size, value growth and dividend growth history/consistency so it looks like a short term opportunistic entry but not something to switch
I seem to have sold MAIN a week before you did, together with HTGC. Valuations got out of hand with those two. I used the gains to purchase FDUS, BBDC, CGBD, and BCSF.
Some good choices there! I know what you mean about the valuations.... Nose bleed territory for me as well ... I love MAIN and will wait patiently to buy some more on the future
Thanks for this interesting video. I agree FDUS is interesting, but would like them to improve on their efficiency. Their OPEX as % of assets are above average. Also their dividend growth has been rather low. I do like their low debt to equity and conservative payout ratio. Combined with their heavy focus on senior loans this should safeguard the dividend level.
FDUs looks a lot like a dividend trap to me. The dividend is not stable and dropped the last 2 quarters. It may be great for shrot term holding but it doesn't have a proven track record like MAIN. Not yet anyways.

Theres nothing about this stock that looks like a dividend trap. Btw, their dividend hasn't went down, bonus dispersement have always been variable. 🤡
