He was a wizard of the Thulian order the men who were getting killed by the undead called for Simon to assist in battle, however it looked like he was late for the battle and used his staff to blast Arcane magic at the undead, but Henrick was to powerful to be killed by Arcane magic so after simons staff exsploded in the duel, he used the crystal to write a rune spell to summon what looked like a lightning cloud to lock him in a underground prison, henrick probs used his darkness powers to destroy simons staff.

While it's a bit of a downer for the difficulty progression, I do appreciate that there is a sensible reason for humanity to use technology over magic in the Wolfenstein universe.
An undead necromancer lord might've been unstoppable in the olden times, but he is no match against high explosives and 2000rpm gunfire.

Probably 1 of the strongest gaming intros of all time in gaming history man the memories.. we need a remake immediately!!
The cinematography in this intro is way above professional. The composition, atmosphere, lighting and camera movements are completely immersive. You are in this universe for a short period of time.
The music, the effects, the buildup and epic release. It's all focused and meaningful. Now we have multi- million dollar studios churning out the Pinnacle of 3D FMVs, like SquareEnix, yet none of it grabs your attention like this.
My Dad and I love this game to death! We'll always quote "You fool! You know as well as I that I cannot be destroyed!"

I remember 2001/2002 when every PC store had this game running as a demo to sell PCs, this game’s release was a big deal in 2001, iDSoftware were legends back then, Doom, Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena... Good old Days.
And then in 2004, everything in Pc gaming changed, Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Far Cry, The Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher Bay, everybody had to buy expensive PCs just to play those, hell, Doom 3 had an Ultra graphics setting that was only playable with 512MB GPUs wich came a year later 😂

When RTCW came out I had an S3 Savage 4, than I got a Geforce 2 MX400 and I was happy I could play it fairly good without stutterring :D

This intro is SICK! I'm too young to have been able to play the game when it came out in 2001, I was only a baby then, but as a 22 year old who's played Wolf 3D, the 2009 Wolfenstein, and all the new ones, I think it's HIGH time I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein!
It's probably the best in the series in terms of pure shooting. I love the story aspect in the new ones a lot but Return to Castle Wolfenstein is very much like 2009 but more linear. If you liked 2009 you'll probably really enjoy this one.
In fact after playing 2009 I now know that “wizard” was a member of the Thule society and that was a Nachstone Crystal that he used to seal Heinrich
This was one of my favourite cinematics ever.
Wolfenstein used to be exactly about this stuff. The Nazi occult and magic. Now it has been reduced to just gore porn and Nazi killing just for the sake of it. No real material. Just subpar stories. I wish we had a new Wolfenstein like this one. It made it so much more than just killing Nazis and it was actually during WW2 and not after in some alternate universe as it is in New Order and New Colossus.

they're the best 2 but, but only RTCW and 2009 are about magic lol, the first 2 castle wolfensteins (the 80s ones nobody here but me played) were "realistic", wolf3D was 100% science except for the weird zombies, you kind of have the second half of the old blood but that's just a 2 hour reference to RtCW anyway

Yes, the storm seems to be ahead again.
By "fates" is probably meant "God" or "luck". The "coming of the storm" is meant Heinrich to be set free again. So, in other words: May god/luck delay Heinrich escaping from his prison as long as possible.
It took me only 20 years to crack this down :).

i don't know if this was the first game to introduce AI or not , but i remember when i played this in highschool , that one particular german soldier was very realistic in the first mission , escaping from the castle wolfenstein . that one when you killed all the rest he popped out of nowhere and started shooting at you . maybe it was me .

Heinrich is very reminiscent of Arthas... The same character, the same pale skin. Even the armor is similar, the spikes on his shoulder pads. And also calls upon the undead. Except... He came a little earlier than Arthas.

In fact there was an actual historic figure on which this Heinrich was based , a very tall Dutch farmer who took on several Dutch soldiers when they murdered (and probably raped) his wife. Heinrich himself was a scythian raider who overran pre-Historic germany . he wasn't german to begin with . Saxon is Scythian not german .
