If main motive is to find 101a+20b+101c than in trick why we subract from reciprocal

Hi! Your English is fine. Subtracting the reciprocal is just the first step to reduce three digit numbers whose last digits are two or more greater than the first digit and convert them to a common number. I like this number trick because I think it helps show new algebra learners a real world reason why you would want to represent numbers with letters. Thanks for asking!

Why is (a-c) not equal to 1?

Awesome question! This is why we ask someone to pick a number whose first and last digits are at last 2 digits apart, and we say 353 and 354 won't work because with 353 the first and last digits are the same so (a-c) = 0, and with 354 we have (a-c) = 1 which means 99(a-c) = 99 x 1 = 99 and we don't end up with 1,089. However, I have seen this trick done where this step is left out and they gamble that the person won't pick a number whose first and last digits are one digit apart, and if that happens they just say "Oh your number must be 198 then".

@@KidssciVideos if we take 354 then, (354-453)=099,. (099+990)=1089 them the trick is also applicable on 354

@@bhaskarpal6025 Exactly! What you need to tell the person who's picking the initial number is not to pick a palindromic 3-digit number and you're fine.
