Love this song, the one in Apple Music is different and also enjoyable but this is the version that I loved when I ran across Willis Earl Beal over a decade ago.
I'm a musician myself, know a lot about different kinds of music.. But this went straight to my core. The passion, complete surrender to music and emotion. Possibly the purest vocal expression i've ever heard. This man is golden.
he recorded it on his own at home, along with over 100 other songs, onto a childs karaoke machine and such. he wanted to redo it and come out with something like 'Nobody Knows' but XL said he should put out those home recordings because they showed more progression or some shit.. He never intended anyone to hear that first album, although it has some good shit on it, Take Me Away for example.
why isn't acousmatic sorcery like this? i don't understand the concept, like on the record this dude's mumbling and hitting a bottle or some shit? but here he channels this incredible rage and his voice is suddenly golden and there's soul and proper instrumentation! what happened
Have these lives versions of the songs ever been studio recorded? And if not, are there are high-quality recordings of these live versions available anywhere?
Your artist relations is tripping to have you do this so low-fi. The reel is cool for demoing songs all day, but you ever think about the next level with a 10 piece soul band. You got James brown energy, but your equipment is limiting
Stumbling across this is a gift. Lovely day to be alive
Keep returning to this.
It's been a decade and I just randomly remembered this. Still hits hard.

A criminal offence this doesn't have more views
I found his album back in 2013. This was the song that made me revist it

So much emotion put into each song, it's amazing. Willis earl beal is important, that's the only way to describe him

Was he a marine?
Carrie is home.
Elvis meets Dennis Rodman
All I can say is this is so punk
Rochester Smith punk with blues feel.
it goes out of tune but still sounds good, very tom waits
great singer but really weird videos
This is not one I like as well as the others.

That's because he had nothing in the first place
