    I heard about this some 30 years ago and haven't seen it since. Taido is a modern martial art with no designs for street combat. It is based on motions found in nature; clouds in the wind, rivers, tornadoes, etc... It is exercise for body and mind.

    己の体という、一番の下僕をどこまで支配できるかというのは、武にとっても重要なことですが、この術はそれが非常によくできていると感じました。

    I'm Brazilian and I trained capoeira for 7 years. Frankly, when I saw that, I was amazed. How the exchange of information between cultures can result in new concepts ... innovations! When in the Brazilian colonial era the African warrior dances met the indigenous fighting movements came the capoeira and in the early twentieth century jujutsu was learned in Brazil and suffered influences and changed. It seems that the way is going up ... The kicks with 3 bases being added the Japanese art, that should already have similar; but now with more emphasis. Very interesting!!!

    • @Veepee92
      @Veepee92 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's nice to hear that you like it. However, most things in Taido are original inventions and do not have any connection to capoeira. I have trained both and there are indeed similar principles and practices, but there is not a single thing in the two arts that would be literally _the same thing_ in both. There is also a big amoung of written theory that explains the origin of the techniques, and it's mostly based on Sino-Japanese ideas with a dose of continental philosophy.

      Interesting ... but, there is always influence when there is information flow. So much so that, although practitioners deny, the "Regional" style capoeira was inspired by Eastern movements. kingemerald1 Your memory is very good. The article featured Sensei H. Hirayama who is credited with introducing Taido to the U..S. I was his student and contributed to the article. Martial arts history can be fuzzy. The impression at the time was that the founder of Taido, Mr. Shukamine was a Special Attack pilot(Kamikaze) and a practitioner of Gen Sei Ryu Okinawan Karate. But there were different types of suicide pilots and Mr. Shukamine was trained as a Kaiten, submarine/torpedo Kamikaze pilot. The story is that he conceived of a 3 dimensional martial art during the war.. There are a number of opinions about Taido that have been posted but it can only be understood with instruction and the experience of training. There is a lot to it both technically and philosophically. It is very physically challenging. The art and its elements can be a very lengthy topic.

      kingemerald1 Thank you. Here is an epilogue to the article. Sensei Hirayama would leave for Australia in 2 years where Karate at that time was governed by an organization that was politically motivated. Sensei Hirayama to prove himself fought and defeated an Australian full contact Karate champion in the ring and would fight 2 more times before retiring undefeated. Today he continues to teach a blended style of Karate which has elements of Taido called Taikudo Karate. I continued to train in Taido for 30 more years on my own until I had a hip replaced at 55 and am now no longer able to do any full Taido techniques. Today I continue to train in basic karate, Kung Fu and Tai Chi.

      This response is funny considering that TaeKwondo(Korean Karate) came from Japanese Karate. The Shimazu clan of Satsuma introduced Karate to Korea during the Japanese-occupation era. After the occupation era ended, in an effort to boost Korean nationalism, the Korean government commisioned Korean Karate instructors to modify the Japanese kata and adopt the new name, TaeKwondo. This is a historical fact that some Koreans hate to admit to this day.

    Vendo esse vídeo percebe se ao pesquisar tantos estilos que existe e o mundo ocidental desconhece....ouvi um tempo que só se ouvia falar de judô.karate.kungfu.box e capoeira. Mais em toda Ásia existiram uma enorme variedade de estilos. A expressões de auto defesa são de surpreendente.

      @thesix107 Lol... well, jokes aside Taido, very much like Aikido is a martial art philosophy more than it is an actual combat system. I applaud their agility but such philosophy does not seem to embody real life combat principles i.e. to incapacitate, or even possibly to maim. Taido is just a flashy sport.

    I live in Japan (18 years) and do Karate. The dojo is split into two. They are doing Taido in the other half. None of us (rest are Japanese) had any idea what martial art this was, until we asked our sensei (who is closeto 70 years old). It is very strange to see in action and looks very inefficient for a fighting style. But, so is Karate when you think about it. I'm just wondering how popular this is coz even the Japanese are not familiar with it.

      @Soulful Keys , they were just adding Capoeira moves in the Taido? Or Taido it was just coincidence those movements looks so similar to Capoeira.
