@@TheBearEssentials I'm really surprised I've never even heard of this knot, this should be in included in fundamental knots, it is astoundingly useful. I've used this knot for years. It is one of my favorite knots for mid line attachments. When super loaded, it cannot be broken. I used it on a 4:1 ratio with a 6,000 lb. tractor pulling. Even a strong marlin spike could not break the knot.

This knot is indeed the queen of all knots. So useful! Thanks for sharing! Another good use for it is to create a series of loops in order to secure luggage on a backpack, in a trailer or on a sled. Il allows you to create an actual square mesh (kind of like a net, ##) instead of crossing lines diagonally (XX), which might slip more easily.

Been using the ABL forever but didn't think about using it in this fashion - just like the figure 8 jam knot you offer refinement for these knots and the ideas behind them. Every time I learn a new application for an old (or new) knot I'm gaining a new tool. Most people don't realize that instead of going out and buying a gadget, they can add some knowledge and 1)always have that "gadget" whenever they have proper cordage and 2)save money, of course. This really is a great loop knot. I tie it by (a) twisting the bight twice (two half twists, i.e. 360 degrees, so it's sort of like there's an infinity sign next to the rope), (b) pulling the bight around the rope so it's behind the two crossing points, and then (c) reaching through the space between the crossing points and pulling the bight towards me.

    • @AMC-eq3jr

RagingGeekazoid The Fastest and Easiest is the Snap Method, and can be done in the dark: Using gloves or handling a vertical line - With the right palm facing upward, bring the working end up forming a bight alongside the standing end. With your left hand (thumb facing down), grab the left side of the bight and flip it to the left forming an "X" while taking the bight with your right hand.

Really great abrasion resistance and though I've never put the Big Game line th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQ4x31pJVpClzhxzNFeILZYTW7Xbs7ZIF (any poundage) through an official test it always seems to break well above rated poundage. This line stretches a very good amount before it breaks and does well in saltwater too. Not the best line for a spinning reel in my opinion, especially if you're planning on using it for lures only due to it having a bit of memory but still a great line whether filling a spool, using as top shot or strictly for leader line. I've bought a bunch of Big game line in the past and plan on continuing to do so in the future.

The rope walks out of the bar, disappointed. He curls himself up, messes up his hair and goes back into the bar.
Bartender says “Hey aren’t you that rope that was just in here?”
      “Nope. I’m a frayed knot.” 😊

This knot is a load bearing knot acceptable for use in climbing too, for mid-rope attachment or isolating a damaged section of rope

  • @u1zha

Nice, thanks, I learned a new way of tying it. I had been following whatever diagram I could google, they didn't show this under-over-under method...
This knot is so far indeed the only new knot I've learned in my adult life. Why didn't they teach this in school... It's so versatile, useful for many adult purposes hehe. Like tying up tomato stalks or adjusting hammock chair height while leaving it easy to untie and adjust.

That tree-branch trick reminded me of something from a Stephen King book. In Book 3 of his "Dark Tower" series, King has his hero (Roland) get down from a high place by rope, and when one of the others comments that they can't get the rope back, the super-competent Roland wordlessly tugs on the rope and it drops to the ground.
I wondered for days how that could be done! And now two decades later, here's the answer. 👍
