I was a sophomore 1st trumpet in a jazz band with a ton of seniors and we were learning this and it was my favorite piece of all time and then covid hit in spring time where I was and we got gutted of a concert. We could’ve done an online recording this year but since almost all the band was seniors they all graduated. Unfortunate situation but now I can flex to my lowerclassmen that I can play this lol
Damn that’s so tough you couldn’t play it with the seniors tho :( my band played this when I was a freshman so I’m trying to convince my bd now that I’m lead lol
If you have fun in band, don’t ever stop playing in band! There are ways you can play when you’re out of high school too. Community bands, military bands, church bands, etc. 👍🏼
May I tell you as a former saxophonist & clarinet trumpet. The best option is 5:11 ~ . Eh, the unfulfilled hopes of youth. You, girls and guys are so young and everything is ahead of you.
@@blumpkin69ish others would say the opposite: playing along to your favorite tracks is the best way to get the feel, then you play with people and just go along with it. I believe both approaches can be valid, depending on the player. Transcribing my favorite solos and playing them over recordings definitely helped get a lot of cool stuff into my music brain.
I'd say if you want you could learn the chords by ear. If you have a decent understanding of chords and basic music theory then I'd recommend the real book which not only includes a simplified version of black Orpheus but also many other great jazz standards.

SAME! I was lead alto sax for my band in California. We had so many great memories together as a band. Life can slap you in the face sometimes.

I heard this arrangement for the first time at a jazz festival and it blew me away
May I ask which festival?
It wasn't Northside, was it?
guess we’ll never know
I ended up playing this song at RIJF and it’s really killer with a good band
Playing this song in a concert in just over two weeks, the trombone part is viscous.

My band is about to play this and I have 1st as well. Rip me
Being able to play lines like these will get you some latin gigs man lol
I'm playing this in a few concerts this month. This was a hard one to nail but now that the band has it down it is unbelievably fun to play.
Lol. Our middle school band the same arrangement: th-cam.com/video/ChxDmLi-SDw/w-d-xo.html

What band is playing?
Tristan H Music Uzumaki Band
2yz Hcf I cant find anything on this band at all
I want to play Jazz guitar, but this only seems to have a lot of of saxophone, trumpets, piano, etc. Any guitar ever used?
a guitar is holding down the chords in this arrangement
jazz isnt really much about playing along to your favorite tracks as it is learning the chords and just going along with it
