wouldn't you use a probe on a class 1 to check the appliance has all the internal earth connections joined or is this overkill? thanks

How the equipments classified as class 1 and 2 ... How can we understand the equipment belongs to which class

      With symbols

by looking at the previous videos, If even after going through all of those videos you did not understood, then contact an electrician. It is true that most people are not the right people to make an electrician. Same as not every person makes a good sheff, or makes a good painter. We are all different and often need help of others in areas we are not good for. When it gets to safety, its worth paying for professionals.

Simlply looking at the mark of the equipment (electrical details) if there's no mark then its' class 1, if you see double square mark that's class 2. or just go back those previous videos please it will help you a lot.

If the symbol is not clearly visible and the plug has a plastic earth pin, its a class 2. Crikes, I sound like a qualified PAT tester and my IET Code of Practice book hasn't even arrived yet👍😄

I'm a little confused - please can somebody help? I thought the insulation resistance test was conducted by plugging the item into the PAT testing machine, and the additional lead with the clip is used to check the earth continuity (for Class 1), but the video is saying for Class 2, we have to use the earth continuity check lead to test the insulation resistance too? So it's the same set up for both class 1 and class 2? Or have I misinterpreted this wrong... Sorry if it's a stupid question it's been a while since I've done PAT testing so just trying to remind myself

I thought exactly the same. I thought the lead with the clip was for class 1 equipment that has exposed metal??

@@paulmartin3682 that’s what I thought! I spoke to Kevin Smith who created the videos and he advised that it’s a common question and mistake people make, apparently class 2 still needs the lead to be connected to an exposed metal part otherwise you can’t complete the test

Hi, when testing polarity of an IEC lead if the result is open/short circuit. Does it count as PAT passed? As the lead works normal. Thank you.

If the result is open you've got a broken lead or blown fuse, is the result is short then you've got a shorted lead. neither will work normally and both are fails.

You need to do insulation resistance test at 500v, if ok then means pass.

Testing the reel extension 25.55: adding 0.1 to your calculation is adding error surely it is... The Reel is the extension.. pull all that out and the device is nothing more than the cable you just calculated and tested or are you saying a plug socket IS an ITEM?????????????

I should point out that 250DC is NOT more then a supply voltage as The 240AC has a peak diference of around 300V So 250VDC should be only used with hazard assesment and even then most towns and many cities would not include one piece where replacement would not be prepared (Outside of the medical%lab cases)

44.11: 500 volts insulation test.. we should not need to feel afraid of a mere 500v I bet the current being generated out of a portable tester is pretty low I guessing if you had a poor heart??
