I had limited knowledge of Mahonia varieties and thought I didn't like it. You've introduced us to great varieties! I'm sold!

Hello Jim, i am loving your new channel! I am in Charleston SC zone 8 with tons of deer and appreciate the deer info on the plants featured. I also have tons of shade and am trying to use native species and cultivars so hope you will feature natives as well. I have the anise, the deer dont touch it! You could have a native playlist!

I have several of these in my garden in DFW Texas. One of very few perennials that flowers in winter. Love them!

I'm truly surprised that it is not used more often in home gardens. A great plant all around. Glad you are spreading the word about Mahonia. How does it take to being transplanted? And when?

I'm very interested in the Beijing (something) Mahonia that you have in a nursery container in your backyard. It has sawtooth leaves. I think that one looks cool.

I bought one of these on a recommendation from one of your first videos on these and it has definitely not disappointed mine is planted by an oak tree for the partial shade that it needs. It is doing fabulous so you are not kidding about the drought tolerance because we all know how oaks steal water and it is perfect

Helpful information. I have some that were difficult to get started, but have prospered since.
On a different topic, I planted some alliums this afternoon, and was thrilled to see white streaks, which I think indicate good micro activity in the soil. Hope so.

I love mahonia - such a great winder bloomer - really brightens up a garden. And these days, so many varieties have come to the nurseries one doesn't have to worry about it being "invasive" ... a great addition to any garden

Mahonia have been on myblist for a really long time. I kept waiting for them to show up at one of the box stores last fall (like they did the fall before) and I never saw them, so it must have been a big year for them!

I bought this plant about a year ago, and it is still in a gallon size container. I am still not sure where the best place to put it in my yard. I also have "Soft Caress" which is also in a container - a larger one - so it doubled its size in one year. I love both types of Mahonia!

I have the larger leaf one and it reseeds like crazy. It’s hard to stay on top of it. Other than hoeing is there anything else I can do to control the amount of plants that pop up? The birds usually eat most of the berries and yet I’m constantly pulling out seedlings. Would heavy mulch help at all?

Would this grow in Montana? Zip code 59301. Thank you :-) I enjoy your videos! I watched a lot of them last spring and summer. We had just moved into our house in April and have a fairly big yard full of plants and flowers that I had no idea what most of them were. I Planted more flowers shrubs and herbs myself as well. My uncle has some honeybees and I was hoping to get more plants that attract honey bees and hummingbirds as well as any bird. There’s a flower bed behind our house that the previous owner had planted and it attracts a lot of different butterflies. That was really fun to see! I’m looking forward to spring!! Who isn’t this time of year? Especially if you live in colder climates
