Hello Ganesh Anna and Patti. My mother-in-law passed away even before my wedding and my FIL does not know what to cook and what not and unfortunately both my husband and I are single child. Amma oda devasam ippo phanguni masam la varum. For the last two years since my wedding, I have just been doing whatever I could do according to vathiyar's instruction here in the US. This time we managed to get a place where we can do full fledged devasam with homam and a vathiyar for sapadu. This video is very useful for me to cook for devasam. This is a very informative post. This devasam practice is fading away slowly due to lack of knowledge and guidance. There are mild differences in Iyer and iyengar devsam cooking. Iyengars dont use manjal ,sugar and green chillies. We make bakshanam like thengozhal,soji appam and suyyam ( all 3 mandatory) some people make appam or adhirasam in place of sojji appam .

As you are soaking for appam after taking bath, kindly let me know at what time you wake up in the morning of Shraddham day. I start kitchen work after taking bath, at 6 a.m. If I soak for appam at that time, I will be able to grind at 10 a.m. Vaadiyar comes to our house at 10.30 a m. There is no other lady in our house. I do the Samayal all alone.

Mami. I always arrage cook for thevasam. But have felt that this samayal is easy. My cook makes jaggery syrup and she prepares athirasam, yelu urundai and halwa. So, kindly let me know what consistency of the syrup will be apt for these three bakshanams. And we dont use coconut. So, what proportion of pepper, jeera should be taken for preparing the powder. I also want to know the salt requirement for all the items. Please explain. Thank you.

@@rajeswarinatarajan5295 That works in some cases but also porandhaam and pukkam vazhakkams are too different. My mother was adept at both (and even her mother-in-law's porandhaam) and was gifted that way and so is this maami here. Rest learn it the way my wife did. All I meant to say was it is not that difficult to learn this and it is so much easy

Have to agree on one statement that you said Maami. The easiest food to make is thevasam chamaiyal. I have never understood why people choose hiranya srardham than the paarvana roopam style
Samaika bayam dhan. Nangalam amma, mamiyar samaikara podhu koodave training kodupa. Vazhakathai kathuko nu solluva. Ippo naney thaniya en mamiyar uku 1 varusham sodhambam, maasiyam samaichen without no one help.
@@rajeswarinatarajan5295 That works in some cases but also porandhaam and pukkam vazhakkams are too different. My mother was adept at both (and even her mother-in-law's porandhaam) and was gifted that way and so is this maami here. Rest learn it the way my wife did. All I meant to say was it is not that difficult to learn this and it is so much easy
