  • In this video, I react to US vs UK food to determine which is better. Both the US and UK food were rated in 5 different categories. Those are the quality of portion sizes, ingredients, food prices, food safety standards, and variety. This US vs UK food challenge was shocking and there is definitely a clear winner here.
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this US vs UK Food reaction, please give this video a thumbs up, share your thoughts in the comments, and click the subscribe button to follow my unique journey of learning about my British ancestry.

One prime example is UK vs US McDonalds French Fries. In the UK they have 3 ingredients (Potatoes, Oil & Salt), in the US they have at least 17 ingredients..
Funfactlet: the British version of Mountain Dew is closer to the original recipe than the current US version.
Edit: In Europe & the UK food additives have to be proved to be completely safe before they can be used in foods, while in the US food additives have to be proven to be unsafe before they're forbidden from being used in foods.

We have red food dye in products in the UK. So we have M&Ms and Skittles etc. The difference being is we use a natural dye, mainly from Beetroot or Beets as you call it.
Our orange dye in foods and drinks come from Carrots. You can have the same, the trials have been done, you could switch tomorrow but it's cheaper to use artificial dyes and the companies will keep on doing it until they are forced to stop.

Chances are, you are also getting a better quality of food - especially in restaurants where our food standards are much higher so the quality of ingredients are better to start with so worth paying a 'bit more' in a restaurant for - although most Pubs probably beat everyone for Price/quality of food imo...

The UK has a reputation for bad tasteless food thanks to the Americans. During WW2 Britain was forced to eat bland rationed food, and American GI's assumed this was how our food tasted generally. So they returned home with the incorrect assumption that our food was trash, and unfairly spread that myth around the world. Thankfully most Americans who try British food are generally surprised at how good it actually is. Also according to Spencer from Embrace the Suck channel, the Asian food in the UK is much better.
That's not to say that American food is terrible, because you guys have the most Michelin starred restaurants in the world, but British and European food standards are far higher and safer.

Honestly the reputation of bad food came from bitter racist Americans who despised us brits for refusing to segregate. For treating black men as equals. How DARE we. It’s why America was late to the war. They knew it would start the end of their racism. Because it was the first time black Americans got to see racism WASN’T a white issue it was a racist American issue. The treatment they received is what made them fight to end segregation. Same as they only wanted to separate from Britain after we ruled slavery illegal in 1771/1772. Which just confirmed it was still illegal from William the conqueror making it illegal a THOUSAND YEARS AGO NOW. We ruled that an escaped slave couldn’t be returned. Because and I quote… the air of England is too pure for any slave to breathe. They become free the INSTANT they’re on British territory. Would love more people to understand history. 😂

The horse meat DNA found in burgers in the UK was from meat that was found to come from Poland through Ireland, The UK is generally very strict. The restaurant meals might be more expensive but we don't have a tipping culture as the staff are paid a living wage, add on to that the healthcare is provided nationally for everyone, not linked to a job. It's appalling that a civilised country treats animals raised for human consumption so poorly, USA animals are fed grain that is sprayed and includes growth hormones.

One option to look at is to buy a bread making machine.
That will do everything for you and a few hours later you'll have a loaf of bread that only contains what you selected.
That will typically be yeast, flour, salt, sugar (just enough to give the yeast a kick start) and water.
The machine will come with a book of recipes and some measures so it's almost completely foolproof.
Although, I admit to having produced something like a house brick on one occasion. 🙂

But it is generally advised to put them in the fridge because most people's houses fluctuate in temp and eggs go off faster in that condition compared to a consistent temp.

@@AcanthaDante It reduces the 'shelf-life' by 5 days compared to refridgeration. If you're not using your eggs within a whole month then maybe there's overconsumption at play?

I live in the UK and yes ,it's very bad that they are using this in America in foods personally , find even in the UK some products here if processed are very bad ,but America's are far worse, I just eat whole foods cook from scratch , if I want something sweet ,I bake ,cakes ,my own bread in my bread maker ,leave enough out for couple of days after slicing it then put 2 slices per bag in the freezer to keep it fresh ,then take what I needed takes two hours to thaw it out ,or I just do it on defrost in my microwave between 30 -50 seconds and it tastes like fresh bread ❤

These days, you can buy all manner of exotic foods, from cheap to excellent fine-dining standard fare in both countries. I would suggest that EU standards are better, but now we’re no longer in the EU, doubtless we will presumably be forced to import sub-standard chlorinated chicken etc, as a makeweight in any tariff negotiation deal. I think you can probably buy better quality cheap food in the UK. The portion size thing was more relevant a few decades ago than it is today, as massive fast food portions are now easily available in the UK too. Morbid obesity in the UK is fast catching up the USA.

Most of the largest people eminate front the US.
The US allow a greater volume of non food contamination (bugs, dirt etc) in their food.

Having bigger portion sizes that lead to obesity SHOULD NOT be a positive and therefore not a win to the US ... Its a bad thing lol!

I dont think America gets a point for quantity of food. Like yes you get a lot for your money but there's portion sizes that are obscenely massive like the cokes you can have it super sized and the large portions in UK would be like a small in USA. And the larger the portion the more likely you'll eat more

When i lived and worked in the USA i was very disappointed with the food It was cramed packed with flavourings and artificial chemicals Even the bread was HORRIBLE along with CHOCALATE In the end i was only buying from farmers markets It was alot more expensive But tasted alot better and was alot healthier

I feel that the food variety was poorly expressed. I would have investigated the range of cuisines in the smaller towns myself. NYC and London both are concentrated melting pots but I hear Indian restaurants are like gold dust outside of big cities in the US whereas here they're practically a national institution.

I know you aren't lying when you say American food is trash. You can get decent stuff but you have to use farmers markets and buy meat and eggs and bread from the Mennonites. Also, here in Europe, we still tend not to use over processed food on a daily basis. Most people still cook from scratch. Even our fast food however, is healthier than yours because we ban dangerous substances and chemicals and our meat is reared ethically.

Also, in the UK, the price you see on the shelf, is the price you pay. Food isn't taxed anyway.

Bad video, because the critería for "winning" are stupid ...
    - portion sizes should be judged by "how much of daily food requirements for an average person" ... and any excess should be negative, because it might be wasted ... or lead to obesity
    - "more chains" is actually bad, because these are about industrialised food ... which isnt good

You only need to search on TH-cam Americans health improves when in the UK and Europe because of the food they eat..people with Celiac disease are now able to eat bread because it has 4 or 5 ingredients instead of 10+ full of chemicals..we do shop more regularly so the food is fresh but it's worth it.
