In my modded playthrough i have a 'frost warrior' build that uses the Deathbrand armour set, along with Chillrend and another sword called Wintergale. It's a sword that swings faster and has a chance to freeze opponents in a block of ice. Then i use a lot of frost/ice destruction magic.
The nightingale armour is amazing both likewise and statewide change my mind
Mine is Nightingale Armor Set but with the Guilds Master Hood instead (i like to see my characters face). Chillrend on the right hand and mehrune razor on the left. So quickly and badass!
Also you can reach the armor cap with this set using potion and enchantments
CHILLREND GUIDE, NO NEED TO COMPLETE THE THIEVES GUILD QUESTLINE
(Remember to bring alot of lockpicks, lockpicking potions or get the Tower Stone)
You can get Chillrend by going to Riften, to the temple of Mara, jumping on the left brazier and then to the temple's roof. You can then either Whirlwind Sprint to the balcony or by walking on the gate, jumping up the manors roof and jumping down to the balcony. Pick the lock (Expert) or open it with the Tower Stone. Once inside, there will be bandits. After dealing with them, head downstairs. You will find closets. Activate the left closet and open the false back panel. Head througth the tunnel but be careful, there are many traps. At the end of the tunnel there is a room with a bookself, a table and a display case. There should be some jewels on the bookself, a unique bust on the table and Chillrend locked in display case. (Expert) If you had the Tower Stone, you can wait 24h to get the ability it grants you back and open the lock. Enjoy your new sword.

It is a glitch but on PS3 if you keep on using the sword the glitch will go away that's at least what happened to me also if you get the sword at a higher level you will get the paralyzed enchantment sorry for bad spelling or grammer if i have any.

LummusMaximus I personally use "Unleveled Items" (Its something like that) I can't remember the author's name but the mods "logo" is some text about the leveled items with a huge "NO!" at the bottom. Can't miss it. It works with all items from all DLCs. It gives you the highest version of the item regardless of your level. If you already have a weaker version of a certain leveled item, you can go to a smelter and transform it into the best version.

I think Chillrend makes a lot of sense for a pure thief character to carry around, since you are not going to be focusing on damage, even sneak damage, if you're trying to really embody theft rather than assassination. You're going to want a weapon, not for it's attack stats, but just for the ability to paralyze them so you can run and hide, beat them while they're down, or lure them into a trap.

I don't really use swords much, but my older sister likes Dawnbreaker the best (she's a hardcore follower of Meridia), and I prefer a Bound Sword.

Surprised that Dawnbreaker wasn't on this list, it's a pretty good sword.
Though I'm a devout Meridia worshiper and Dawnbreaker is my favorite weapon, it is a particularly weak sword in comparison to others. It's base damage is relatively low and the enchantment only works well against undead after all. It also can't be smithed up passed flawless without potions or exploits(which probably involve potions). I don't let it stop me though. I praise Meridia and swing that bad girl one more time.
Good luck using that pile of dung when you find yourself being surrounded by a dozen highwaymen.

Harkon's sword is really good as long as you are a vampire, and you get it at the end of the Dawnguard DLC - meaning you also have the arrows to cancel out the effects of the sun, rendering vampires without a debuff (other than weakness to fire).

dawnbreaker is kinda stretching it. while it is one of my favourite weapons, it is weak and easily outclass by around lvl 40. it is a daedric sword that doesn't hit nor have the same crit damage like a daedric sword, as well as it doesnt benefit from any smithing perk meaning you cant go past flawless quality without potions. it is a very underpowered weapon for a supposed daedric artifact. which is why i love using daedric dawnbreaker mod. it changes the people to have the same base damage as a daedric sword, and changes the fire enchant into 20 sun damage, triple to undead. you can choose to have the sword shine light, stagger undead without power attack, have infinite charge, or have both fire and sun damage. personally i use the non stagger, no light version

Honestly, my favorite sword is the Ghostblade. It's just sooo cool looking and unique
I like the Blade's sword because it can be upgraded easily and is gotten very early and is unenchanted so you can put whatever you need on it. Plus dual wielding them looks badass as hell.

I love the fact that you chose swords that could be used by any character and non dual wield.
With 100 Smithing, 100 Enchanting (+Extra Effect and all Elemetnatal perks), 100 Destruction (also with all augmented element perks) and 90+ One-handed (all armsman perks with savage strike) with Chaos Damage and Shock damage enchantments on the blade with Fortify One-Handed, Stamina and Destruction enchantments on my armor makes my dragonbone sword extremely powerful.

My daedric sword, also benefits from my 100 Alchemy, with my potions with 130% better armor upgrade, and 32% stronger enchantments...hahaha

RCBM Mines use chaos and fiery soul trap on a stalhrim sword
Do the same with a stalhrim mace. Also use Ahzidal's armor for the boots(+10%) and the set bonus to fortify your skill to over 100. Also use the Seeker Of Sorcery effect for another 10% bonus. To increase smithing, make sure you use the Notched Pickaxe for extra smithing capabilities. Use Chaos and frost on your stalhrim as stalhrim has a bonus to both enchantments. Make sure it's a mace for Bone Breaker.

I simply just love the game! Traversing through the wilderness,the lakes and towns...dungeons, caves and ruins too....
With all of the questing and challenges the one thing I have not done was enchanting a weapon or combining different ingots to weapons to create the enchantments..all I use is my bows and arrows and carry a glass sword! Everything else is sold...or saved in containers at my properties! I strengthened my swords, bows, and a few daggers and such...but that's about it!

I like to use Dawnbreaker when I use a sword. My character is a sorcerer so I only really use the sword for fun, so its power level doesn't really matter to me. It's a beautiful weapon and its Undead fear effect can come in pretty handy at times.

I run a chillrend nightingale sword combo. It's easily one of the best one handed weapon combos in the game. I also use the nightingale armor since it looks badass and it boosts one handed damage by 25%. Without enchantments it's still good, but with enchantments it's amazingly effective.
I've always loved Chillrend, and you're right that it's not very useful for for thieves in general, but man does it make it easier to take out Mercer.
The best sword is no sword. I just have a ring that gives me 400% health recovery and a necklace that increases the damage of one handed weapons by 500%. I can use whatever weapon I want. Enchating is the real mvp on skyrim

These FM fellows make really nice visual stuff but it would be nice if the spoken part sounded more natural and conversational instead of a school kid reading something out loud for the teacher. I always like using the dragon bone weapons and using that swift strike shout and just weed wack my enemies away.
Weight has no influence over attack speed, it only effects stamina cost when power attacking.

I beat Alduin in like 5 minutes with Miraak's sword. The stamina absorption stunned him, and kept stunning him, leaving him defenseless, and he couldn't fly away.
For the longest time I just kept using the sky forge steel 1h sword that you get from whiterun for free. It looks cool, surprisingly good stats, and I love 1h sword combat.

If you can manage to get onto the rooftops of Riften you can use Whirlwind Sprint to leap to Mercey Frey's house, and get inside without doing the thieves guild quests. Just be warned: if you take Mercer Frey's plans before the quest that requires you to do so, you will completely bug out the thieves guild, making it impossible to continue.

In one of my builds I used dual wielding Chillrend and the Nightingale Blade.
I recommend the Chaos enchantment you can obtain by disenchanting the Champions Cudgel. With enchanting skill at 100, with relevant perks, chaos enchant can do some real damage (mine has 82 points of damage plus soul trap)

It only looks cool. It's a piece of crap compared to Mehrunes Razor, Dawnbreaker and Harkons Sword.

No Dawnbreaker? Of all the swords, Dawnbreaker is my go-to weapon. Fire/Sun damage, plus Turn Undead, the capability to be improved with an ebony ingot, and the fact that it has more charges than any other weapon, makes Dawnbreaker extremely useful. The explosion which occurs when killing undead can be a little annoying, as it knocks everything around and makes looting a little more difficult. But I think that's a small price for such an awesome weapon.
These enchantments are nice but I feel like having your own custom enchantments is better, seeing as you can have more than double the health/stamina absorption of the nightingale blade just by enchanting with max perks and a potion

Well theres like hundreds of videos on how to get chillrend/daedric at level 1, so skyrim would be boring if at level 1 everyone already had a 46 damage sword that paralyzes the enemy.....

I use an ebony sword that I call Morghulis. It has a fire enchantment for 26 points. If I'm not using that, however, I'm using the Nightingale Blade. The nickname comes from Game of Thrones' saying, among others, "valar morghulis, - all men must die."
My other main weapon on my main character is an ebony bow I call Hellwin. It also has a fire enchantment for 26. Its nickname is the middle name of the lead guitarist of a band I listen to that I thought sounded fitting and cool.
