I'm running this paladin exactly for the reasons mentioned in this video, it's non-cliche pala that deals shit ton of elemental damage and shatters his opponents into shards of ice 🤩
For anyone interested in using runes for some basic gear for this character, a piece of advice: SAVE ALL KO RUNES. I usually only keep 4 or 5 on hand but between Sanctuary and some of the others like Lawbringer, you'll burn through these like an Australian wildfire.
For a REALLY min/max end game build, you only need a rank 25 conviction aura to max out the resistance reduction (150%) which with some of these builds Ive seen means you only need to put like, 9 hard points in conviction, allowing you to max your cold resistance and put spare points into Salvation for the extra elemental damage.
@@samtarioss hyperbole, the point is you dont need to max out your conviction aura because the benefit has a cap. I havent raised my own character to max level yet and filled my inventory with +skills grand charms to know the exact number, but I have seen videos where people have rediculous +skills totals.
I'd suggest Doom axe, dragon chest, and phoenix shield for those slots. That'd give you Holy Freeze, Shock, and Fire, along with redemption auras. The main draw is that the hard points put into the resist auras also boost the damage from those granted auras and Conviction works very poorly with leech and redemption eases that burden. Doom and phoenix also lower cold and fire resistance respectively to help compensate for the fact that Conviction works at 20% effectiveness when breaking immunities. Dragon also gives a chance for venom when struck, which you will be since you're melee, so yiu can truly cover all elemental damages. Also as previously mentioned in another comment Conviction can only ever lower by -150% at level 25, so you can redistribute some skill points to other things once your +skill items push you beyond that threshold. Edit, also something you didn't mention but is super important is that Conviction doesn't just break immunities, it lowers defense by 93% at lv 25 which means that with all the dex we have for max block and the ar boost from vengeance we don't need +ar from items.
I'm playing avenger at launch, and on every ladder reset. Everyone is running sorc's as their first character, and everybody has to "walk" the game. Nobody has infinity. I become a walking lvl 25 infinity, and help my sorc friends blast through everything with ease. A couple days after the ladder reset (or launch), I'm ready to make MY sorc, since rushes from friends are available, and start MFing gear to reclass the avenger to zeal or hdin. But even if its a week into ladder, not every hell baal run is going to have an infinity merc in it. You can be the #1 MVP to the team, literally by just standing there with lvl 25 conviction on, and speed up the baal runs by a great margin.
@@siuching7997 Ok I did a play through with my avenger. It definitely was a boon to all baal, chaos, and cow runs for awhile. About 4-5 days. I also was able to help with non-rushed play throughs, coming through TPs to remove immunity from bosses like the cold immune worm guarding the staff. My most clutch time was doing hell ancients a couple times and stripping immunities for the sorc's and trap assassin to kill. However it's not a long term build. I would get 1-2 shotted by hell ancients and same for cows. It was fun for the first week, but now that other people have better gear and don't *need* a lvl 25 conviction aura to help, it just became annoying dying all the time. 10/10 starter build for new ladder resets, but reclass to something else once you're in done with hell ancients.
@@dredd6696 hooooorrrkkkkk! Been playin a leap attack grim ward barb, if you’re not in a rush it’s a blast. Grim ward became one of my favourite skills. My only issue is that damn lag from 2002 is still there…I’ll leap and it’ll just keep slingshotting me back to where I was and sometimes find item or grim ward bugs out on a body and he just keeps yelling. 1 point into find item and ward, max find potion.
Another armor that is viable is guardian angel Templar coat or in my case hellforge plate giving + skills max 90 res all and after you pump up the auras u can get 95 max res on fire cold and lightning add venom grips for95 res all raven frost for cold absorb dwarf star for fire absorb and t-gods for lightning absorb. Did this build to overtake uber mephs conviction and be the master of elements a long time ago
i actually like this build and have used it before, one thing to note is the conviction aura does not need the full 20! you can get by with about 12-15 depending on what +skill you're running with (i realize that's end game, but still). this frees up points to frost resist as well as a couple of other points into holy shield if you like!
I am building this right now, offline. Playing through normal on players 5 without any trouble at all. Haven't quite gotten to level 30, but defiinitely looking forward to Conviction. Sticking with the Act 1 Merc, and was thinking Faith for that, eventually. Just trying it out, and it is fun. When the ladder comes up, if I go that way, it is a possibility for me. Love the Sorc, but this build has been very fun to mess around with. Pretty much owns whatever he runs into. Mana has been an issue....this build is mana hungry at first. But not too horribly bad. Some rejuvs and he's solid. Eventually I don't think it will be an issue, with better gear.

Good gear for an Avenger Paladin (in my experience, completed all Hell Difficulty multiple times): Kira's Guardian/Harlequin Crest/Guillaume's Face Guardian Angel Templar Coat (god tier COH or Enigma if you have the runes). Crescent Moon Amulet for dual Leech Raven Frost for Cannot Be Frozen, plus either a Stone of Jordan or Bul Kathos's Wedding Band Dracul's Grasp Gloves for the life leech Thundergod's Vigor or String of Ears for Belt War Traveller Battle Boots for damage which helps boost Vengeance Herald of Zakarum Shield (or Alma Negra for damage) Weapon should have both speed and damage. Oath in an ethereal Ettin Axe or Conquest Sword works well (I suppose god tier like Last Wish or BOTD would work even better though I haven't tried it For a Merc, Act 2 Nightmare Defensive Merc with Holy Freeze Aura with an Insight Polearm so you can slow enemies and never run out of mana.
Effectively achieving 100% CB with this guy goes a long way, especially with Ubers. This was my FIRST “Uber” char back in version 1.07 before runewords, before Ubers… we had Sets, Uniques, and GG blue weapons. We had Diablo Clone or Uber Diablo and you could just hop game to game waiting for the timer to run down and hope to snag an Anni! I remember most my gear.G Face, stormshield, the redeemer pally weapon, highlords, raven/BK, gores, Tmight, dracs.
Forget about fancy runewords, teleportation, riding the metatrain into boredom. You want full Immortal Kings ,Crown of Ages, Anni, Torch. Rings & Ammi fills whatever you feel you need. 20 hard points into Vengeance & Conviction. One point each to get there. For everything else prioritise synergies & Utilities. Stats is enough to use your gear, everything else into vitality and maybe a little bit of mana as a treat. You're not a speed clearer, you're a sure clearer. Merc gear is at your discretion. Have fun

I finally made my ultimate Revenger Auradin and it's so ridiculously fun to play... Yes it's not a meta build nor is in a min-max range but it truly rocks! I also went a bit for the looks because why not, right? 😅 What I end up using was: Doom (Berserker's Axe), Dragon (Archon Plate), Exile (Vortex shield), Dream (Spired helm), Mara's/2 pala + all res + mana rare or crafted amu, crafted 20 IAS + CB + dual res + LL gloves, String of Ears, Gores, Ravenfrost, SoJ (because of high mana usage problems). Merc is Act 1 Fire with +3 bow and cbow perfect Faith (Matriarchal Bow), Flickering Flame (Demonhead) and Fortitude (AP). I am using myself a Vengeance + Conviction and I figured out that it's better to have Offensive skillers since this gives you opportunity to invest more points into Salvation which hard points give you more overall dmg bonuses than soft points from PCombat skillers would. It's a true killing machine even on players many! On top of that he looks awesome with all the auras (max possible ones). Decent Anni + Torch + some res small charms make you have max res (or very close to it) which also helps a lot. Not only that you have max block, you will also have decent defense and it just adds up on the hilarious side of this build. It was very expensive and hard for me to build it but it was utterly worth it and I would suggest everyone to try it (ofc if you have resources and will). 😊
Does the skill Holy Shock, Fire, and Freeze from rw Dream(helm), Doom(axe), Dragon(armor) stack on vengeance skill and the flat elemental damage from each aura added to vengeance skill?
This is how I prefer to play an Avenger: huge 2-handed stick and one-shotting everything. Maybe not an optimum build but a nice change of pace after Zealot, Hammerdin, etc.
I'm using holy Shield on my Herald of Zak, my weapon is Azure Wrath, Armor is Guardian Angel since I didn't max my res with skills. Also have Saracen Chance, Raven Frost, Hellmouth, Carrion Wind & Thundergods Vigor. The only thing that is going to kill me is massive physical or magic damage and with holy shield I'm hard to hit so magic is really the only thing that threatens me.
Does the character sheet show the passive resists increasing when you put points in resist fire, etc? I have been doing that and I have not seen then them increase.
It's not a passive increase in resistances its a passive increase in resistance cap, so you'll still need items to boost the resistances they'll just stack higher.
This build seemed interesting to me but Im having a hard time doing normal cows with it because no real aoe attack. And vengeance uses a lot of mana I have to drink mana pots constantly :(
Activate your Holy Shield (if you have the skill and you really should) and in your character window hover over the defense stat - it will show you the chance to block. The reason to activate the skill is to see the value with added % from it, so you dont spend too much on DEX. Also take into account that different shields have different +to block%, so when swapping gear you may need to do adjustments. Please note that block is hard capped at 75% so dont overspend. The need for DEX for max block goes up with character level so once you got your STR for the current gear you end up going +2 DEX +3 VIT with each new level most of the time.
@@deadcan47 Thanks. I plan on at least getting it with a respec at act 4 of normal but I've just been pouring the points into holy fire and nothing gets close, even fire immunes die to it which I'm not sure is a bug
@@zachk.530 If you have any items that lower mobs resistance, than it makes sense. Also in normal, nothing should be immune except for maybe some unique monsters. The challenge comes in Nightmare and Hell difficulty where normal mobs spawn with some "immune to" affixes. However that doesnt actually means they are immune, just means their resistance to that element is above 100. There are some skills that can break those, i.e. conviction aura on paladins and lower the resistance below 100 treshold at which point they will start taking damage from it.
This build should be called UNOBTANIUM ! I have 5 friends with which i farm daily for about 3-4 hours each of us and i think we found a BER rune In a month ...
ok, please let me describe my build: i use infinity merc i put 1 point up to fanaticism (being the main aura) or not - more about it later V 20 vengeance 20 for all the resists + salvation main weapon is either ebotdz or phoenix (you bet) caduceus with +3 fanaticism (this helps me avoid putting points into prereqs) also i think 20/20 resist light + salvation is a must when you are using double dream... pls comment.

Tried this.... and it was an awful experience! Without at least a minimum of AOE damage, this game is a nightmare. This build would be great if the skill had a part of AOE damage.
totally agree with you. You feel slow, monster feel strong and even with conviction some resist still tkae time to kill. I prefer the version with fanatisism for more ias.
I don't like some of his equipment choices. He seems to be forcing Zealot gear onto a non-Zealot. The eBotD is of course great but for PvM you don't need to pair that with CB, DS, etc. on an Avenger.
Weapon damage. So if you're using a weapon that does 10-20 damage with Vengeance adding +250%, you're adding 25-50 Fire/Light/Cold to every attack. Total damage per swing would be 85-170.

Ancient's pledge is a way to spend the quest runes, but unless you really want that damage to mana, perf diamonds have more res.

Why don't use a two hand weapon ?
Prob because losing the defenses (resistances!) from a shield hurts a loooot.

Why not Grief for the wapon? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere and it seems to alway be BiS for most melee characters.

That's why you need mana steal with an Insight merc.
Yeah it’s not a very good early build, it’s more of like a nightmare and or beyond level build; not so much a early level build

So it's only physical damage that gets converted. So the elemental damage on say a Baranar's Star would not benefit from vengeance?
Correct, it just pairs nicely with Conviction if you are on a budget or self-found.

There are some skills that can break those, i.e. conviction aura on paladins and lower the resistance below 100 treshold at which point they will start taking damage from it.
Why does it seem like he's leveling up auras as if he could wear and have active multiple at once?

20 charge, 20 might, 20 vigor, 20 fanatism, holy shield, get enough life per hit/mana per hit for sustain

The "Damage +" modifier on Grief is not used by the Vengeance calculation.

ok, please let me describe my build:
i use infinity merc
i put 1 point up to fanaticism (being the main aura) or not - more about it later V
20 vengeance
20 for all the resists + salvation
main weapon is either ebotdz or phoenix (you bet) caduceus with +3 fanaticism (this helps me avoid putting points into prereqs)
also i think 20/20 resist light + salvation is a must when you are using double dream...

Tried this.... and it was an awful experience! Without at least a minimum of AOE damage, this game is a nightmare. This build would be great if the skill had a part of AOE damage.
At that point in gear your still better off using zeal and be way better
This build is a lot better on paper than actually in game. It does not feel good to play.
totally agree with you. You feel slow, monster feel strong and even with conviction some resist still tkae time to kill. I prefer the version with fanatisism for more ias.
I don't like some of his equipment choices. He seems to be forcing Zealot gear onto a non-Zealot. The eBotD is of course great but for PvM you don't need to pair that with CB, DS, etc. on an Avenger.
@@tdweomer having 1 source of CB is pretty much a must for just about every build.
I still don't understand vengeance. The damages are %. Fire damage: 252%. 252% of what?
Weapon damage.
So if you're using a weapon that does 10-20 damage with Vengeance adding +250%, you're adding 25-50 Fire/Light/Cold to every attack.
Total damage per swing would be 85-170.
