  • Hello! I made this roller skate transitions tutorial for beginner skaters who have recently learned to skate forward and backwards and are now trying to achieve smooth transitions when skating and switching directions. In the video I'm demonstrating a roller skating transition front to back for beginners. Of course anyone might benefit but beginners especially it can be helpful to really try it this way if you are having some trouble. This method helped me to learn how to transition from front to back when I was first learning how to skate backwards.
Part of this video is a sort of ramble of me talking about being followed and harassed. I wasn't sure if I would include it in the video but I ended up adding it in the end because I think it's important to share my real experiences. I know that I'm not the only female skater who has been followed and/or harassed when skating outside. I want to dedicate a video to this topic and speak about ways to mitigate and combat these scary moments.
Stay safe out here and good luck with your transitions =)

Oh no! I get that way too. Always have my phone in hand. Also pepper spray around my neck or in my pocket. Sucks to have to be on look out while trying to skate / have fun. Glad you’re safe!!

Sorry it happens to you as well… My phone is also definitely in hand and I almost always have headphones in (but without music playing) thinking that this will make people not approach but it doesn’t always work - I don’t have pepper spray because I’m scared of accidentally spraying myself, happened to someone I know- but I do have a little birdie personal safety alarm on a keychain

Honey always trust your instinct, if possible while your recording your video's (which I love and are very helpful) include the vehicle or individual in your video in case something goes wrong. My friend in California took a picture of me in front on my blind dates car in case I never made it home. JS

So true! It’s not always easy to trust your instincts and intuition - it’s something I’m personally working on

I just came across your video today in my feed and I'm so glad I did. After a little bit of practice today I am now able to transition and keep my momentum afterwards. I'm a visual learner and your video made it all come together for me. I've been struggling so long trying to transition so thank you for sharing!

There are no good intentions behind watching a stranger. Listen to your instincts. Don't wave, that's an invitation. He does not want to make a new friend. There is only danger and/or sexual harassment there.

I think part of me thought that if I waved and acknowledged that he was there, that he would just say hi and then go on about his business and keep walking… but of course it didn’t work🤪 The dead creeper giveaway was when he kept pressuring me to go to his house to get coffee instead of going to a coffee shop and we had just met

But how do you push back?! 😢 I am kinda getting it while stumbling but I only come to a stop not even roiling forward or backward

It’s tricky. So you were having trouble keeping momentum after you transition? Or do you mean that first pull back with the single leg?

What do you mean, you want the video to be longer? I’m not a pro at editing, still learning 😆
