    That’s stunning! Looking for ideas for a rescape myself and may have to copy a few bits from yours!👍

    I think it's a little overstocked, but I think it's as pretty a South American biotope inspired tank as I've ever seen. If you lose a couple of angels and a few tetras--or gain 20 or 30 gallons--it'll make a huge difference in the behavior you'll be able to observe among your fish.

      Thanks for the feedback. I agree there's a lot of fish in there and perhaps just a little overstocked. But most of the fish you see in the video is because I just fed them. I also made sure to have a good blend of fish that like to hang out near the surface, middle and bottom. The 6 angel fish turned out two females and four males. Two pairs that occasionally lay eggs. The two males remaining single can occasionally get a bit grumpy with each other but nothing more than a bit of showing off happens. Most of the time all six of them hangout together peacefully as they are doing now (looking at them while I'm writing my reply) I think six angelfish of this size is the max for this tank and if one of the males would die I don't think I would replace it, but no way I'd even consider losing one. They will stay in this tank until they die of old age :)

      Thsnks. No substrate, plain sand but with some clay sticks for nutrients.

    Great tank! Love the wood; looks really natural. Would it be possible to give a plant list? I am setting up an aquarium myself and love the look you created. I plan to add more tannin by adding leaves helping me to lower the Ph and the HD. Do you add something in your filter to create the optimal Ph and softness?

      Hydrocleys Nymphoides, Echinodorus bleheri and Hydrocotyle leucocephala floating above. Some anubias nana at the sites en the red leaves in the middle I believe was some kind of ludwigia.

    That is one really beautiful tank! I would love to create something similar. I hope you do not mind some "simple" questions from an eager amateur. What kind of filter do you use? Rio should have some internal filter. Is it enough? The flow in your aquarium is pretty mild too. Do you use some special filter attachment? And how do you prepare the water? Just peat or some additives? And the last one. No problems with tetras? I have heard that they like nibbling the longer fins. Thank you very much in advance. You have the aquarium of my dreams!

    • @solidhqx
      @solidhqx  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man. You are correct, the rio comes with an internal filter which I had removed. It's actually quite good but it does take up a fair bit of space and another advantage of an external filter is the increased total water volume.
      At the time when this video was made, I was using the SunSun 304B. It is a very cheap but capable filter, I replaced it later for a JBL 1501 but that was mainly because I wanted to experiment and try out different things. The SunSun is still in operation with another tank doing a fine job. With 2000l/h I would call it a mild flow :)
      I don't use the spray bar but instead have the outlet underneath the water surface, aimed slightly above and to the middle of the left side of the tank. The idea is to create a nice flow at the surface which is good for oxygen. On the bottom it's creating a flow left to right back to the intake.
      I don't have a CO2 installation but instead add Carbon and plant fertilizer.
      My Peru Altums are very peaceful and completely ignore the Tetra's. Not sure if that is because I had them with Tetra's from a very young age. I've heard plenty stories from other people that have the same experience but also some where the Angelfish did hunt down all the Tetra's and ate them.
      Thanks again for your nice comments and I hope you will get your dream aquarium too!

    Amazing! can you make an update? what are your water parameters? Did you add some sort of livebearer too? again beautiful tank!

      Thanks my friend, I'm redecorating it a bit (some new plants) but I will do an update soon. My Angelfish have grown a lot. I indeed have some livebearers:wild guppies. Surprisingly the Angelfish aren't interested in them...

    Usually I don't like tanks with many fish, but your tank is very pretty.
    How much time do you spend on its maintenance?

    • @solidhqx
      @solidhqx  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I spent lot of time preparing and setting it up, but nowadays it doesn’t require that much attention. I refresh about 20% of the water weekly and remove any excessive plants. clean the filter every couple of monts and thats about it.

    Do you use any co2 or fertilizers for the plants? Will they die over time?

    • @solidhqx
      @solidhqx  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm adding carbo (EasyCarbo) daily and fertilizer weekly. The plants in the uper layer are HYDROCOTYLE LEUCOCEPHALA and grow like crazy. I have to weed them out biweekly. The other plants aren't too picky but the carbo helps in particular to keep the algae under control.
      The Alternanthera or ludwigia in the middle (forgot what it was) didn't do very well. I think they needed more light, top was nice and red but bottom leaves kept dropping off so replace them.
      I changed some of the other plants too, I will do another update in the autumn or winter when it's darker. It's hard to do it now because it's light outside until late and I can't get a nice video because of the reflections.

      What are you talking about?

    • @kaustavpaul3839
      @kaustavpaul3839 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      meant to say your angelfishes in vid. looks nice, but they are not true altums , may put in some pterophylum altums and see the difference @

    • @solidhqx
      @solidhqx  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh you are talking about Altum vs Scalare? If I'm not mistaken the official name for them still is Peruvian Altum. Also, if you freeze the video at 1:04 you'll notice the middle one has all the features of an Altum where the left one is much closer to a scalare. I have 6 in total, two couples and two males. The two 'single' males developed a more scalare shape and the two couples have the Altum shape. Recon its hormones related which causes the debate Altum or Scalare, just my two cents...
