I agree with some of what Corey said but shaq, chuck and Steven A have made valid points about our people as black athletes making dumb decisions etc. Sometimes our people need to be called out and be told when they doing wrong. We’ll criticize a white person quick for something they do but look right past our own for the doing the exact same thing. It’s part of the reason why our culture is so messed up. We can’t always play the victim.

Corey is right. Sports journalism presently has become a safe haven for many in the media to create these negative images about certain groups in America. And it only seems to be getting worse. The fact that Smith didn't respond from his ESPN chair suggests to me that the network may finally be concerned enough to restrict him from engaging in such negative commentary while performing his onair duties. Hopefully this is true. If you're a sports show, then deal strictly with sports, and not any personal biases or issues you may have with an athlete's life or beliefs.
