We've been having fun in our clan by closing the night of clan battles out with a 'meme' div off all Gearings. Surprisingly we've won when we've run this and had a heck of a lot of fun.
As pointed out, these reload faster and hit harder (with a higher flood chance). The speed and stealth of the torpedoes is the same, so there's no change there.
Held together with duct tape and spit. Any other ship could have sneezed and you and it would have been over. Well done! Going to send this to the old man?
If I remember correctly, Jingles said that the old model of Gearing was thicker than it should have been, causing AP shells to arm and full pen her, when they should have overpenned.
The old system where BBs could full pen DDs was bad for nearly all destroyers, but Gearing felt it more than many because of her beam. She was definitely thicker than Fletcher - with more armor than a typical DD - and you would routinely get slapped around by battleship AP. It was not an enjoyable experience.
They have a longer range for less damage and flood chance. I prefer these that hit harder but have less range. For me, I'm confident in my ability to deliver these torpedoes in the majority of instances and not take catastrophic damage from radar or the like. There's nothing wrong with the long-range ones, it's just a personal preference.

I noticed your torpedo range is shorter than mine. Are you running the early torps? If so, why?

Nah, it isn't that incredible of a game, just a solid result after getting smashed so early.

I can argue for Z-31 being the worst experience possible in this game
It's awful. I don't understand how they released that ship as-is.
Why not take the other torpedoes of Gearing, on paper they are better right?
The extra range doesn't matter as much as the massive difference in damage.
