When there is conflicting evidence the pro and con must be weighed. There are hundreds more statements by the founding fathers in support of the christian character of the nation than against. Congress starts with a prayer. Why shouldn't this overwhelming predominance of evidence win the argument?
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Christian God. The God who every European who walked onto the Americas worshipped, and every American founder revered. Also the new atheism talking points are so over.

America is now the most religiously diverse nation on earth, with a (shrinking Christian majority but millions of followers of just abut every religion in existence, as well as millions of atheists and agnostics . So which god are we all to worship ? Every American must be free to follow any religion , as well as free not to follow any religion at all . Our government MUST be religiously neutral in order to preserve the freedoms of all Americans . And we must not only have freedom of religion but freedom FROM religion .
