There are frequent comments on the What's My Line? channel comments section saying Arlene was too pretty, too good, too whatever for Martin because he wasn't some tall, dashing he-man. While good looks are a bonus, loving someone and being loved in return is vastly more important than outward appearances. It was always obvious Arlene and Martin LOVED one another. That's all that matters.
Juanette, agreed. I've often responded to those "disaproving" remarks: Martin Gabel's appeal was his energy, intelligence, humour, kindness and Oh yes! That marvelous, sexy voice, singing too!
Martin was an extremely talented man, witty and charming. He loved Arlene and it was obvious it was reciprocated. What more could anyone want? Stupid remarks deserve to be ignored.
I used to think that too, on the surface they seemed like a complete mismatch. But Arlene, who could have had any man she wanted, was head over heels for Martin, so he must have been a very special man indeed
I'm an old guy and watched What's My Line from the time I was 7-8 years old and my mom would let me stay up late on Sunday nights to watch. I've always loved Arlene and Martin and sort of followed her life especially; I remember hearing when she died of cancer and Alzheimer's...she had been living in San Francisco with her son, Peter Gabel who was her helper (not including the doctors) before she died at age 94. I also read just recently that her son Peter died in October 2022, age 75 after a long career in education and music.
And much like Allen and Betty, Martin died in the 80's, like Ludden. Then Arlene and Betty lived to their 90's always in love with that man that they lost. Sad... but they knew what so few ever get to know...True love. ❤❤ I pray all 4 are riding the Rollercoaster in Heaven!
I read that a mugger robbed her of that diamond heart necklace as she was getting out of a car. I wish a few of us had been there and could have defended her. Such an adorable person.
I agree and hope Karma caught up with that POS in time. What an amazing woman Arlene was, she did it all and truly broke the glass ceiling for women. Thanks to You Tube her legacy lives on.
