Gumi has tried to fit in with other Vocaloids to the point she starts to become them. In being them too much, she forgets herself.

I feel like this song is about a girl who is constantly criticised on her likes and personality, so she makes herself a blank slate, developing her personality around people who pity her enough to befriend her so they don’t leave her, but in the process she forgets her personality from before, and soon enough her friendships clash as they realise how different she is with other people and she ends up alone again anyways
Something I noticed in this song: Its a never ending loop. Put this song on loop to understand. Gumi meets some people, becomes a friend, and changes her actions to match and fit it. She realizes in the last chorus what she has done and abandons them to find herself again, but ends up doing it again with the next friend group. She's in an endless vicious cycle of trying to live up to people's expectations, mainly out of insecurity or peer pressure. I feel like this song is about a girl who makes friends with people, but slowly adapt to their personality and mannerisms, basically becoming almost exactly like them. She can't remember her true personality because she has done this countless times, and always talks different depending on which person she is talking to, or type of person she is talking to. She literally can't remember who she really is, because she now has so many different personalities and acts that are now part of her, letting go of who she once was, and accepted what she has now become. Her "default" personality fades the more she talks to someone. Her old mannerisms for herself are now a blur to her. She feels she has to act like other people to seem more interesting to them. And now we've got Copycat, a song where Gumi copies others traits and keeps adding more to the point where she no longer has her own personality. These songs are not only amazing, but they happen to have similarities.

My personal interpretation of the song (And viewing other's opinions about it) is that the song is about the dangers of not expressing yourself just to please others. Having a different personality for each other person so they won't dislike you may seem like a good idea, but please please never do that. You can see that when the mirror was empty and Gumi's nails were green (Green resembling herself), she was missing her face. Pair that with the lyrics "I can't remember who I am", because so many fake personalities will eventually end up in you losing yourself. Always be yourself :] Other's may not like you for it, but it's impossible to please everyone. People will like you, people will hate you, and people won't care about you. honestly, this song is probably the best way i could describe borderline personality disorder to other people. it’s so easy for people like me to adopt personality traits from anyone and everyone they get close to in an unhealthy way. we lose ourselves in others, and self-identity is one of the things we really struggle with, because after adopting other people’s personalities for so long, who are we really underneath all of that?

This music has been with me since I was little. I have always been wondering why and the flashbacks were so quiet and creepy. I was walking in a mall and had my iPad listening to this song. I was walking around and went in a playpen, still having this song stuck in my head and listening to it. I went everywhere with this song playing. And then got lost. And it felt like my parents were gone and it felt like this mall got abandoned, I still walked around with thjs song playing and then went in a restaurant. And then my parents grabbed me and talked with me like nothing is wrong or happened. It felt like they were my fake parents and took me out of the mall, that’s where the song ends. I’m not sure if this is a dream but it just feels too real.
And then orange caramel walks in sees the scene and realized that they don't count because 1st they added another word to the title 2nd it's not even in English and thereby disassociated with the others due to language barrierand 3rd the thematic tone and message are so different it would be the same as arguing that butter and cheese are the same thing
This song, along with “Echo” and “Again” are clearly all about BPD.. Which is Borderline Personality Disorder and I’m surprised at the overwhelming amount of comments who thinks they’re about Bipolar Disorder... No... Bipolar is switching between the poles of depression and mania/ hypomania and you stay a single mood for a long period of time before switching without warning... BPD is constant mood swings daily, mirroring others, having a weak sense of identity, huge fear of abandonment, BLACK AND WHITE thinking opposed to “normal” thinking which will appear as a rainbow of thoughts if you look it up, splitting, and etc. This song, Echo, and Again are all dead ringers for BPD.
All three of these songs go well with ASD (Autism spectrum disorder) also, I have struggled for years with my emotions and a lot of other things in my life. Un-diagnosed/ wrongly diagnosed BPD until I was 23. Our minds seem to go through the same roads and paths to get to the objective thought process sometimes.
This is actually a darker song than what most of the comments are even discussing. I know there are people who want "friends" so much they start giving up who they are to be who the person wants them to be. But then all the different personalities are hard to balance; too many masks and you can't tell who you are anymore. It's a tragic song, really. Edit (1/21/2019): I haven't looked back on this message in MONTHS and come back to a heck of a lot of likes and finding out there are so many who can relate to this statement. I am experiencing conflicting emotions and do hope there is some way to reconcile any of you have difficulty being yourself. Again, I don't want to say that changing yourself is bad: it's not recognizing who you are yourself that is the tragedy, which this song was reflecting. Change is neither good or bad; sorry if I seemed like I was saying that all change was bad. It's not. But please, if you're not comfortable with who you are, try to find out why, change something, and be proud of your decision. I really don't think it's healthy if you're not happy with who you are because you should still have the right to your own interests and personality, or accommodate a few changes than just throw away who you are as a person entirely. Friends are a way you can be a better person, not to be made a copy of just to feel like you are whole. You'll find someone who will relate to you and maybe open you up to new possibilities. As someone with BPD, this song hits hard. We're prone to attach ourselves to and mold our entire personalities to our favorite person (an actual BPD term, referring to a person we've got an unhealthy attachment to, even going as far as to have episodes if said person stops talking to us/makes us think they don't like us) . Because we do this so often, and due to the trauma that caused the BPD, we often have 0 sense of self and struggle to separate ourselves from those around us. That's not the only issue with BPD, but it is one this song conveys perfectly. Finding someone you like, putting them on a pedestal, mimicking their actions thinking that they'll like you more, and then splitting and abandoning them, only to feel like shit afterwards and do the same thing again. All because our identities we're taken from us by trauma.
WHAT I dont have bpd or any severe trauma besides like emotional abuse and shit but I do this with people ALL THE TIME. I copy my close friends entire personalities down to their posture, way of talking, laugh, interests. Same with putting them on pedestals and molding my personality around them, therefore leading me to get upset with them for small things (not telling them tho) because my mind formed the idea that they're "perfect" and would never do anything that I disagree with since I see myself in them (one time i deadass cried in the middle of class bc I found out a close friend did something I always found weird but not harmful) and then I also could never understand how other people can just not do this....I always assumed it was a normal thing ppl did and would even be a bit upset when they didnt copy my mannerisms and style of speaking...I probably explained this badly but yeah
@@dianalovesbagelss8029 emotional abuse can be severe and there’s this thing called little t and bigT trauma the difference is that bigT is trauma due to a large traumatic event and little t is for small things that pile up (sometimes the little things aren’t Abusive in it of itself but in combination they are) both types can be intense and very harmful and for the PBD thing you can’t be sure unless you are checked by a professional or there might be a different disorder that makes you copy people(English isn’t my native language so sorry it it’s confusing)

"Copycat" is an original melodic techno genre song by CircusP, featuring GUMI V3 English. It seems to be about a person having problems with their identity, whose point of view is portrayed by GUMI. In GUMI's mirror, the silhouettes of other Vocaloids (Miku, MEIKO, Rin, Luka) are reflected and GUMI's facial expressions change according to them. However, when it shows GUMI's own silhouette, GUMI's face is blank, implying that she only copies the personalities of others and lacks one of herself. She may be doing this because she thinks that her significant other likes other people and tries to "mirror" them so her significant other will like her more.

I feel like this song is about a girl who makes friends with people, but slowly adapt to their personality and mannerisms, basically becoming almost exactly like them. She can't remember her true personality because she has done this countless times, and always talks different depending on which person she is talking to, or type of person she is talking to. She literally can't remember who she really is, because she now has so many different personalities and acts that are now part of her, letting go of who she once was, and accepted what she has now become. Her "default" personality fades the more she talks to someone. Her old mannerisms for herself are now a blur to her. She feels she has to act like other people to seem more interesting to them.

My personal interpretation of the song (And viewing other's opinions about it) is that the song is about the dangers of not expressing yourself just to please others. Having a different personality for each other person so they won't dislike you may seem like a good idea, but please please never do that. You can see that when the mirror was empty and Gumi's nails were green (Green resembling herself), she was missing her face. Pair that with the lyrics "I can't remember who I am", because so many fake personalities will eventually end up in you losing yourself.

honestly, this song is probably the best way i could describe borderline personality disorder to other people. it’s so easy for people like me to adopt personality traits from anyone and everyone they get close to in an unhealthy way. we lose ourselves in others, and self-identity is one of the things we really struggle with, because after adopting other people’s personalities for so long, who are we really underneath all of that?

This music has been with me since I was little. I have always been wondering why and the flashbacks were so quiet and creepy.
I was walking in a mall and had my iPad listening to this song. I was walking around and went in a playpen, still having this song stuck in my head and listening to it. I went everywhere with this song playing. And then got lost. And it felt like my parents were gone and it felt like this mall got abandoned, I still walked around with thjs song playing and then went in a restaurant. And then my parents grabbed me and talked with me like nothing is wrong or happened. It felt like they were my fake parents and took me out of the mall, that’s where the song ends.

This is actually a darker song than what most of the comments are even discussing. I know there are people who want "friends" so much they start giving up who they are to be who the person wants them to be. But then all the different personalities are hard to balance; too many masks and you can't tell who you are anymore. It's a tragic song, really.
Edit (1/21/2019): I haven't looked back on this message in MONTHS and come back to a heck of a lot of likes and finding out there are so many who can relate to this statement. I am experiencing conflicting emotions and do hope there is some way to reconcile any of you have difficulty being yourself. Again, I don't want to say that changing yourself is bad: it's not recognizing who you are yourself that is the tragedy, which this song was reflecting. Change is neither good or bad; sorry if I seemed like I was saying that all change was bad. It's not. But please, if you're not comfortable with who you are, try to find out why, change something, and be proud of your decision. I really don't think it's healthy if you're not happy with who you are because you should still have the right to your own interests and personality, or accommodate a few changes than just throw away who you are as a person entirely. Friends are a way you can be a better person, not to be made a copy of just to feel like you are whole. You'll find someone who will relate to you and maybe open you up to new possibilities. It's not a perfect answer, but better than lying to yourself.

As someone with BPD, this song hits hard. We're prone to attach ourselves to and mold our entire personalities to our favorite person (an actual BPD term, referring to a person we've got an unhealthy attachment to, even going as far as to have episodes if said person stops talking to us/makes us think they don't like us) . Because we do this so often, and due to the trauma that caused the BPD, we often have 0 sense of self and struggle to separate ourselves from those around us. That's not the only issue with BPD, but it is one this song conveys perfectly. Finding someone you like, putting them on a pedestal, mimicking their actions thinking that they'll like you more, and then splitting and abandoning them, only to feel like shit afterwards and do the same thing again. All because our identities we're taken from us by trauma.
WHAT I dont have bpd or any severe trauma besides like emotional abuse and shit but I do this with people ALL THE TIME. I copy my close friends entire personalities down to their posture, way of talking, laugh, interests. Same with putting them on pedestals and molding my personality around them, therefore leading me to get upset with them for small things (not telling them tho) because my mind formed the idea that they're "perfect" and would never do anything that I disagree with since I see myself in them (one time i deadass cried in the middle of class bc I found out a close friend did something I always found weird but not harmful) and then I also could never understand how other people can just not do this....I always assumed it was a normal thing ppl did and would even be a bit upset when they didnt copy my mannerisms and style of speaking...I probably explained this badly but yeah
