Hey levi, this kind of content is exactly what the AO community needs. In depth/short/basic guides on PvP. This is a full loot PvP focused game, and im suprised that its very hard to find guides like in LoL, Dota 2 in this game. Keep this way. Less CD highlight bullshit. Your channel will be the king.
Mayne the next vid is how to counter toxic/meta/popular CD builds: nature, hallowfall, frost, 1h xbow, boltcaster etc.. iE, ive just found out to use res pot vs boltcaster E, and since then i have 0 loss against them. Or nature mer jacket, now i simply run away from those, with the knowledge of them have 0 chasing skill.
I try to deliver content based on what information I felt was lacking when I started out or returned to the game. Happy to know I'm hitting the target with my guides. Different content appeals to different people I suppose but I'm very glad there is an audience for the content I create too :)
Nice video. One more thing you probably forgot to mention - the typical counter in a 1v1 against the Inner Corruption (Cultist Cowl) is once again the Hunter Hood's Retaliate. With Retaliate on, your defenses are higher, meaning you block some of the damage from you inflict on yourself with your spells/attacks, and you reflect 70% of that damage (before reductions) to your attacker. This means, that for each hit or spell you use, you trade better - in the end, Inner Corruption ends up doing more damage to your enemy, giving you an advantage. You also get a bit of a breathing room, if your attacker decides to stop attacking you when your hunter hood is on.
I actually didn't think about that Richard! I felt like I was repeating the Reflect a bit too much but I must say this seems as a valuable comment for countering the Cultist Cowl. Reflect definitely is important to have it seems for these types of content, more than I would like to admit :P Thanks a lot for the detailed comment, I've definitely learned from it and I'm sure anyone reading will too
So a few caveats I feel are important about the reflect mechanic that AlbionPewpew covered in a video a few months ago is that all reflected damage is also buffed by all the passive damage buffs that are inherent in all chest pieces and armor passives. The 70% reflected damage of Hunter Hood's retaliate is therefore buffed by the 45% damage bonus on the cleric robe (75% if you proc everlasting spirit), so the true amount of reflected damage for hunter hood+cleric robe is basically close to 100% (or 120% with everlasting spirit). Same with the inferno shield on all leather jackets- the 30% reflect on the mercenary jacket actually becomes 36% because of the 20% damage bonus inherent to the chest piece.
That's some really great additional information wryd, thanks a lot! Definitely learned a few things my self from your comments and I'm sure many will learn from it and appreciate it.
If you use 2 abilities at the same time, the enemy can just wait for it to run out which is roughlt 4-5 secs and hit you again or if they have mage robe your doomed haha
Loved the video! I really like how clearly you show the effects, there were a few videos I watched like this one when I started the game but never knew what the effects they were talking about looked like!
Another thing is that in the Rise of Avalon patch 5 (or 6?), the purging shield of mage robe was changed such that it no longer purges your enemy if you were hit by damage over time (e.g. Curse stacks/bleeds). This leads to a pretty need interaction where if you can land your DoT on an enemy and pop your merc jacket, as long as you dont land another attack you can still heal off the damage instances even if your enemy has used purging shield.
When you dot however with curse Q for example, the single target Q, you also do damage right? So this would only apply to the 2nd Q or how does that exactly work?
So for the leather armor Inferno shield skill It does do the 30% it is saying in the tool tips BUT that is 30% from the base damage they do to you not including any armor/magic resist Same for the hunter hood it is before your defensive stats taken into account.
It seems, the basic counter to lots of strong armor abilities is to simply wait them out. Abilities like Ice Block (Mages Cowl) and Smokebomb (Hellion Hood) really help with that. Same goes for many weapon abilities. Default bow and mace e.g., both have very predictable damage spikes. Activate retaliate, everlasting spirit, ice block or smokebomb at that time and you are golden.
He didn’t mention that if you have cultist cowl cast on you, you can use hunter hood to reflect all the damage it does to you. This is the best way to counter it. Activating guardian boots also makes the damage you take irrelevant so it’s a counter as well. Mercenary hood isn’t really a counter because the ability isn’t as applicable offensively. It should actually be considered losing to use it.
nice info. I am playing in cd now. it is hard to know what skills they using..so it makes me hesitatge when I should using my own skills. any tips for this issue?
Wouldn't it be exactly counter productive to use Reflect against someone who uses Mage robe? If he uses mage robe, I activate reflect and he autoattacks me then he will get dmg reflected back to him which then in turn will purge myself right? That could prove to be fatal imo.
I believe it used to work like that yes but it no longer does. If I have reflect active and you have purge active, if you hit me, I won't lose the reflect any longer. I will only if I hit you directly.

Glad it helped!
Great detail in this video. Helpful for noobs like me.
You can use reflect to counter cultist cowl. It's 4s vs 7s but you can at least do something back to opponent.
It seems, the basic counter to lots of strong armor abilities is to simply wait them out.
